国際キワニス財団から早速送られて来た義援金20,000ドルは、罹災者の救援に役立てて頂くべく、 仙台キワニスクラブを通じて宮城県および岩手県に, また福島キワニスクラブを通じて福島県に 災害支援金として直ちに寄付された。 日本地区としては、これらの浄財が公正、かつ効率的に、そして子ども達のためのプロジェクトに 活用されることを願って、義捐金の使途について討議を行うプロジェクツ選考委員会を設置し、 その答申をふまえ、2011年9月9日の第3回日本地区役員会において キワニスクラブ共同基金 を設置することを決定した。
