Writer, Blogger, Bon Vivant. Monthly Archives: June 2013. A Writer’s Life For Me. June 30, 2013. Hi diddle-dee-dee, here’s a fellow. Who has taken Dr. Johnson’s maxim. So, I researched it a bit and to make a long story short, one thing led to another and this month, it looks like I’ll clear somewhere around $15,000 for my fiction titles. Not being a writer myself (thank God for Word’s spell and grammar checker! My formula is simple. Step 1 Look at what is selling. A webforum about a book called. I was ne...

Writer, Blogger, Bon Vivant. January 23, 2010. Tangier is one of the oldest cities in North Africa. It’s seen Carthaginians, Romans, Vandals, Byzantines, Arabs and a succession of European powers control it. Yet it’s always thought itself to be less than what it once was, always looking back on a mythical golden age. In 38 BC. Romans made it a free city and it’s people Roman citizens, but then later abandoned it as the empire’s central power declined. The Vandals took it in 429 AD. British expatriate Mic...

Writer, Blogger, Bon Vivant. November 20, 2012. My lifelong friend John, who’s a professor of engineering at a Northeastern liberal arts college, and increasingly irrational, sent the following note last night to a very small mailinglist we both participate in. Saved a lot of people from starvation. My father, a lifelong republican, used to complain about his father, a very hard working, conservative fellow of few words who raised 11 children during the depression, dirt poor, always voting democrat: ...

Writer, Blogger, Bon Vivant. Eight Years Is a Long Time. June 17, 2013. I’m not sure if I should file this under writer’s block, laziness, fear of success, or utter burnout, but for nearly two years now I’ve been stuck on stupid, unable to write myself out of my hole. So why can’t I complete it? Self doubt, or stupidity? I hope it’s a mild case of the former, but suspect it’s a severe case of the latter. Both options are galling. This entry was posted in General. Writer, Blogger, Bon Vivant. January 23, 2010. I had to look the word up. It means snails, as in We’ve got snails! Which is what the signs in tapas bar windows all over Seville were advertising in late August. It was the snail season, and the Sevillanos love eating snails, and reserve their custom for those establishments which specialize in the garden delights. This entry was posted in Food.
