I have no Amish ancestors so I never dug very deeply into Amish history and genealogy. But this couple has mostly Amish ancestors and several lines which can be traced back to Berks County. One of them is the Miller line and is where we started our tour. We also saw the homestead of Jacob Hertzler, near Hamburg, who was the first Amish bishop in America. We visited several ...

Scribbler: Show Time

He knows me so well he didn't even ask if I want to go along. My philosophy on tractors is simple. If you've seen one you've seen 'em all. Why should I throw money away to go into a tractor show when my time and money can be used more profitably? I was happy to stay home and find my own entertainment. THERE IS A GOD. There IS a God in heaven.

One of my favorite activities is digging out documents to correct false information on a family that has been published and widely circulated or a family that is basically unknown. One of those fell into my lap about two weeks ago and I've been having a lot of fun digging. I'm not finished but the story is beginning to emerge. I transcribed the deed the day it came and sure enough!

Here is Adam Dieffenbach playing the Dieffenbach organ at Salem Reformed Church in Bethel. After 140 years of use, this organ is now silent and waiting for repairs. Read the following post to learn about Dieffenbach organs. I should have reversed the order of these two posts and don't know how to change it now. Christian Dieffenbach continue...

Last weekend we attended a wedding and watched as a new home and marriage were established. This weekend we were on the other end of the scale and attended a 50th anniversary celebration for my sister and her husband. Someone once asked, "What is more beautiful than a young couple on their wedding day? Scarier yet- this is us! July 2, 2015 at 11:40 AM. View my complete profile.

We have the second weekend of June reserved at the same cabin every year and I like it there. It's big enough for all of us to be under one roof and is not far from home so we don't have to drive two hours yet after we leave. Even though it's not far from home, it is in a secluded spot of the mountain where there isn't even a signal for a cell phone. View my complete profile.

My niece has been operating a clinic for ten years at La Source in northern Haiti. Here is a portion from her last email:. People are willing to work, but it is impossible for us to employ everyone. . . . That very day, we got a letter from Christian Aid Ministries (CAM) which also described the famine in Haiti caused by the drought. They are sending corn and beans to the ...

We made a (low) flying trip to South Carolina to attend a wedding on Saturday, June 20. The groom has worked with Leroy for years (which is how we got an invitation) and he wanted to go. On the way, we passed through an area of South Carolina where a lot of peaches are grown. Even the town's water tank is shaped like a peach. We stopped at a fruit stand at Cowpens to buy ...We sp...
