The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act that was enacted in March 2010 requires that insurers and health plans allow young adults up to age 26 to remain on their parent's plan. Regulations have already been issued under this new provision, and they answer a lot of questions we had. Who does it apply to? Which dependents are entitled to this extension?

In a 180-degree reversal, the IRS (along with the DOL and HHS) released an announcement yesterday that changing insurers will NOT automatically cause a health plan to lose grandfathered status.
