Leigh's Letters Home. 8230; from assignment in South Africa. On the Trail of Nelson Mandela. Saturday, 14th June 2014 – Afternoon. This was an amazing day. Saturday afternoon we were taken to the Apartheid Museum and this was fascinating, shocking and moving but ultimately it is the inspirational element that stays worth you. On entry you are given an immediate jolt when you see you have been arbitrarily classed as either white or non-white. 8220;It always seems impossible until its done”. For the evenin...

Leigh's Letters Home. 8230; from assignment in South Africa. Introduction to South Africa. Saturday, 14th June 2014 – Morning. The message was reinforced again that our purpose as part of IBM’s Corporate Service Corps is not to win business for the company. Instead it is a corporate social responsibility initiative that aims to bring about lasting change for communities in developing markets whilst providing global leadership training for the IBM team. An Assignment to Africa: Out of Africa
http://insouthernafrica.blogspot.com/2014/08/out-of-africa.html
An Assignment to Africa. Tuesday, July 29, 2014. This is the last day in Johannesburg, we are heading back home in the evening. We used the day to visit Lion Park, basically a zoo, near Jo'burg, to cuddle lion cubs. It was strange to see animals caged, after so many visits to parks where they are free roaming. Lion cubs were very cute! We saw rare white lions. We used the last few hours in South Africa to head towards Pretoria. Our way there led us next to a shantytown. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
An Assignment to Africa: In Zambia
http://insouthernafrica.blogspot.com/2014/07/in-zambia.html
An Assignment to Africa. Monday, July 28, 2014. We crossed the border to Zambia, and arrived in Livingstone on Sunday evening, being very tired after the rafting trip. We had a delicious meal of Kenyan-style T bone steak and Zambian goat in Cafe Zambezi. In the afternoon, we were flying to Johannesburg. Still, there was a bit of time to visit the Victoria Falls from the Zambian side. This side of the falls is MUCH wetter than the Zimbabwean side, and we were completely soaked in no time! Part II: by air.

Not Quite Sure What to Call This. Perhaps, The Experience of a Lifetime. A blog related to IBM Corporate Services Corp and South Africa Team 12. Sunday, July 27, 2014. Final Blog - Back In Raleigh, NC. Amazing How Time Flies. I aptly referenced this blog as "the experience of a lifetime" and it has certainly turned out to be so and easily a highlight of my IBM career. I'm not sure if that's attributed to the fact I have no highlights in my IBM Career (smile) or the program is just that great! IBM's Corpo...
An Assignment to Africa: Exploring the canyons of Zambezi
http://insouthernafrica.blogspot.com/2014/07/zambezi.html
An Assignment to Africa. Sunday, July 27, 2014. Exploring the canyons of Zambezi. An almost philosophical lesson learnt from white water rafting: You cannot hide from a rapid or a wave - if you try, you will fail. If you paddle into the middle of a rapid with all your strength, you can go over the wave and you will be able to smile and wave to the camera at the end, no matter what category a rapid is classified as. The views were gorgeous and we had a great time close up with nature at its best.

An Assignment to Africa: June 2014
http://insouthernafrica.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html
An Assignment to Africa. Sunday, June 29, 2014. After a hard week's work, six members of the team decided to explore South Africa, and to head to the Pilanseberg Game Reserve. Over the weekend. This park is one of the easiest accessible in South Africa, because it is just a two hour drive away from Jo'burg. This park is just a few miles away from Sun City, Africa's Las Vegas. Saturday afternoon, we headed there, and spent a few fun hours in this Disneyland meets Africa place. Thursday, June 26, 2014.
