Lesson a Day: A Teacher's Daily Reflections

Lesson a Day: A Teacher's Daily Reflections. Monday, September 23, 2013. Yes, I skipped seven days of blogging. Why? I was trying to be good at my job. So last weekend when my husband said I needed to go away with the family I did it. I had been working hard and my family needed some quality time away from the house and work. And then last week when my students turned in their rough drafts I was reading and responding to their drafts in preparation for writing conferences. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Lesson a Day: A Teacher's Daily Reflections: Oops!

http://www.lessonadaydailyreflections.blogspot.com/2013/09/oops.html

Lesson a Day: A Teacher's Daily Reflections. Wednesday, September 4, 2013. I missed yesterday. Oops. I guess that means a quick make up blog before I force myself to remember to do my blog tonight. Life happens and yesterday I had a rough afternoon. Of course, it is safe to say that I had a rough afternoon by First World standards. It wasn't really difficult. Nothing really bad happened. But even teachers have those days, especially if they have a personal life. Hope it won't happen again.

Lesson a Day: A Teacher's Daily Reflections: What Is a Reader?

Lesson a Day: A Teacher's Daily Reflections. Tuesday, August 20, 2013. What Is a Reader? It all started when I reposted a picture I saw on Facebook:. One of my more astute friends noted that there are potentially skewed statistics here, and I have to admit that the teacher who focuses on rhetoric felt a little sheepish. I hope that these statistics are skewed, because if these are completely accurate, I have my work cut out for me. For me the posting brings up two issues. View my complete profile. Today ...

Frazzled Reflections: Witnessing the Battle

http://frazzledreflections.blogspot.com/2013/07/witnessing-battle.html

Saturday, July 6, 2013. My first real impression of reenactments came from Hollywood. Remember that scene in Sweet Home Alabama. When Reese is walking across a chaotic field to find her father and then admit to her fiance who she really is and where she really came from? Yeah, that was my first impression. Keep that in mind as I tell you about yesterday. Just a taste of the parking. There were a lot of cars and even more people in attendance. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Me with my babies. Frazzled Reflections: Memories of Dog Walking

http://frazzledreflections.blogspot.com/2015/02/memories-of-dog-walking.html

Saturday, February 7, 2015. Memories of Dog Walking. And energy allow. The houses in our immediate neighborhood have large yards, which gives Sierra even more space to explore as we walk up the slow incline which takes us further from our neighborhood and closer to the newer subdivision that sits behind our subdivision. We often jokingly refer to the neighborhood as “fancy-pants land”, but while the houses are nice, they are not ostentatious. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Me with my babies. Reflect...

Frazzled Reflections: August 2013

http://frazzledreflections.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html

Thursday, August 29, 2013. Open Letter To My Daughter. To my precious little girl,. You are too young to know these things, but I promise to teach you that:. You are incredibly special. You will hear this from many people, including your mom and dad. We don't just say it because we are your parents and you are a part of us. We say it because it is true. Do not let anyone take that knowledge away from you. You are better than that. Thursday, August 22, 2013. The Great Window Saga. Somehow he had managed t...

Frazzled Reflections: August 2014

http://frazzledreflections.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html

Wednesday, August 20, 2014. Here I am on the first day of Kindergarten in 1984. Here is my daughter on the first day of school in 2014. Tuesday, August 12, 2014. This Is When It Gets Hard. I am a wife, a mother, and a teacher. They are three vocations (not jobs) that I relish. They make me who I am, and without one of those vocations I don't feel complete. But this is the time of year when those three vocations collide in uncomfortable ways: the beginning of the school year. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Frazzled Reflections: June 2014

http://frazzledreflections.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html

Wednesday, June 25, 2014. Book Review - The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian. Sherman Alexie's young adult novel, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian. Was a delightful addition to my summer reading. It is a book that has faced censorship nationwide. Is important reading for young adults and adults. It gives a glimpse into a world that most of us will never personally encounter while being entertaining at the same time. Books can open worlds and minds, so why not start with ...I lov...

Thursday, August 2, 2012. The Painted Wallpaper Disaster: Our Little Girl's Bedroom. When you are blinded by possibility, sometimes you fail to notice the little things that will make all the difference in your house renovations. Such appears to be my story with the wallpaper in our house. I will get to the wallpaper in the master bedroom, which was actually finished first, later. Today I will discuss the painted wallpaper disaster. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Me with my babies. Creation of a Man...

Frazzled Reflections: January 2014

http://frazzledreflections.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html

Tuesday, January 28, 2014. Climate Change or Not? Does It Really Matter? For years there has been a lot of discussion in the scientific community concerning first "global warming" and now "climate change." The argument is that the earth is warming due to greenhouse gasses produced by world wide pollution. Much has been made of this suggestion. Al Gore made a lot of money off of An Inconvenient Truth. But my response to all the bickering is, does it matter? Saturday, January 25, 2014. It's difficult when ...

Frazzled Reflections: Bringing Home Bella

http://frazzledreflections.blogspot.com/2015/02/bringing-home-bella.html

Thursday, February 12, 2015. He was looking online to find puppies. The kids kept asking questions about Sierra, our three year old son still struggling with understanding that she was really gone. They asked if Sierra was in heaven. Our son asked when Sierra was coming home. And then he would repeatedly say "We don't have a dog anymore.". We said we needed time to heal. My sister and a dear friend and coworker said we needed to take the time to heal and decide what we were going to do next. I feel the t...

Frazzled Reflections: Saying Goodbye

http://frazzledreflections.blogspot.com/2015/02/saying-goodbye.html

Wednesday, February 11, 2015. Sierra looking out for our son when he was a baby. We didn't want to punish her. We wanted to protect everyone, including her, from further potential harm. And yes, I felt like a failure. I hadn't done enough to take care of her. I hadn't done enough to make sure she was comfortable. And I hadn't done enough to make her feel like she was still an important member of our family. How could we take her to the vet and never bring her home again? Me: No you didn't, honey. As we s...

Frazzled Reflections: November 2014

Tuesday, November 11, 2014. More Wallpaper: The Living Room Saga - Part 3. Once our walls were finally painted and dry and looking significantly better than when we moved in I finally put the pictures that had been sitting in our guest room for the past three years on our walls. The living room was finally started to feel like home. The next step was buying and putting up a new chandelier to replace this one:. Then my husband had the misfortune about two months ago to hit a hidden rock in the grass that ...
