UnRAID: Moving from a server and desktop to one machine. February 10, 2016. February 11, 2016. Recently, I discovered unRAID. Motherboard: ASRock 970 Extreme3 R2.0. CPU: AMD FX-8320E Eight-Core. Memory: 2 x 8GB 2 x 4GB. Storage: 2 x 4TB WD Red’s 2 x 2TB Seagate Barracuda 1 x 120GB Samsung 840 EVO SSD 1 x 250GB Crucial BX100 SSD. Flash Drive for OS: Cruzer Fit 8GB (Cheap, small, and it works great). Video Card(s): AMD HD5450 (Primary for unRAID VMs) AMD HD7850 (Gaming VM). Case: NZXT H440 Black Windowless.

Monday, November 23, 2009. Since FreeNAS 0.7 it is easy to configure TimeMachine to use a AFP share (like Apple's Time Capsule). Here is a short howto :-). First step: Configure FreeNAS. Automatic disk discovery - Enable automatic disk dicovery. Automatic disk discovery mode - Time Machine. Second Step: Configure OSX Time Machine. Over the years I’ve gone from Windows File Sharing, to FTP, back to Windows File Sharing, to Samba, to NFS, and lately to a combination of Plex Media Server. For videos, and Logitech Media Server. Box, an AppleTV 3. Would serve as the backbone for this system. unRAID is nice in its inherent file redundancy as well as the various plugins.
