http://www.lisascarolina.com/2016/09/new-look-6374-in-floral-rayon-challis.html
New Look 6374 in Floral Rayon Challis. Here in the U.S., our first day of Fall was last. Week so of course a Summer top has been completed this. Week made to be worn with my white twill pants. And a pair of blue Sperry shoes. Or sandals. *sigh* Someday I'll coordinate my sewing with the seasons better, but for now I'm just thrilled it's done. And I love it! Back in August, our Make a Garment a Month Challenge. Was to choose 3 patterns from our stash and randomly pick one to sew. I cut a size 10 even thou...
Lisa's Carolina | Handmade: Gray Ribbed Corduroy Pants | NewLook 6216
http://www.lisascarolina.com/2016/11/gray-ribbed-corduroy-pants-newlook-6216.html
Gray Ribbed Corduroy Pants NewLook 6216. These pants were cut out on a Wednesday night right before heading to bed, completely finished by 2:00 pm the next day and being worn out the door to attend a casual function at 2:30 pm That's pretty quick for me! NewLook Pattern 6216 is an elastic waist straight leg pattern I've made twice before, here. I've always eliminated the cording in the casing. Love these pockets! Warning. this pattern runs big! As I was setting up the camera on our deck this morning for ...
Lisa's Carolina | Handmade: Burda 1/2016 #120 Reversible Jacket
http://www.lisascarolina.com/2016/03/burda-12016-120-reversible-jacket.html
Burda 1/2016 #120 Reversible Jacket. This quick and easy jacket has already been put to hardworking use in the wardrobe. Not only has it been worn to my niece's Florida wedding, chosen and sewn to specifically be worn with the Newlook 6261 classic sheath dress you see here. But worn as a nice casual jacket for these warm, yet still cool South Carolina Spring days. Okay, almost Spring days. I am sooooo ready for Spring! This jacket is from the January 2016 Burda issue labeled #120 Reversible Jacket. The w...
Lisa's Carolina | Handmade: Ottobre 02/2016 no. 10 Glorious dress in linen red poppies
http://www.lisascarolina.com/2016/06/ottobre-022016-no-10-glorious-dress-in.html
Ottobre 02/2016 no. 10 Glorious dress in linen red poppies. A new linen dress in red poppies. A new favorite. A shift dress is not a silhouette I've ever chosen before or worn, but with their current popularity and our soaring hot temps, thought it'd be a good choice for summer made from pretty red poppy linen fabric purchased from Joann's last season. Red seems to be a good color for me this year. I made a size 38 with 3/8" seam allowances as per pattern instructions with a few exceptions. Unsure of my ...

Sew Much More: Knit Maxi Dress - Butterick 6330
http://bjsewmuchmore.blogspot.com/2016/08/knit-maxi-dress-butterick-6330.html
A blog devoted primarily to garment sewing - with little splashes of quilting, crafts, and misc. sewing thrown in for variety. Wednesday, August 31, 2016. Knit Maxi Dress - Butterick 6330. I made this dress a couple months, but just now getting it posted. I also want to make the jacket later in the fall. I made a size large, which is bigger than I need. But the fabric is thin and very stretchy, and I didn't want it to cling too much. I'm happy with the fit. I really like it with a black cardigan. Your dr...

A Home Grown Journal: It's A Mess But Ya Gotta Start Somewhere
http://ahomegrownjournal.blogspot.com/2015/05/its-mess-but-ya-gotta-start-somewhere.html
Wednesday, May 13, 2015. It's A Mess But Ya Gotta Start Somewhere. I took a bunch of pictures to chronicle our deck demolition as we go. Here's the deck from the south side. We've had flower beds on the front and both east and west ends. This is the west end of the deck with a Sugar Maple growing next to it. One of the reasons the maple tree has to go is that we have grown to. Another sad tree story. This was a Nanny Berry tree off the southeast corner of the deck. The main part of the tree died ...All t...

A Home Grown Journal: July 2014
http://ahomegrownjournal.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
Wednesday, July 30, 2014. Wa-Hoo, Let's Celebrate! We finished filling the big wood shed today. Completely full. Now we have two wood sheds full to the brim with wood cut, split, stacked and (hopefully) drying for this winter. It took us about one full month longer to accomplish this task than we had estimated it would. It wasn't that we didn't keep working on it. Too many days of rain interfered with our efforts. But now (whew! It's done, and we can relax a bit on that count. The red cabbages are slower...

Valerie's Sewing Blog: B5958 Zippered Jacket
http://valeriesownsewingblog.blogspot.com/2015/07/b5958-zippered-jacket.html
I think in English, struggle through Russian and wish I was fluent in French.but inspiration knows no borders. Saturday, 25 July 2015. Do you know what I would tell my beginner sewing self if I could go back in time? Unlike my previous version I did not put pockets in the body of the garment, to give it (and me! A smoother line. I used a spongy pure wool bought during a sale at Pitt Trading (serendipity! My other modification is a CB seam and sway back adjustment extending almost to the side seams. There...

Friday, November 28, 2014. The Day After The Day Before. I need to hire a blog post editor.). Anyone else getting really irritated with all the Black Friday hype on the Internet and in local papers? It bugs me that it all exemplifies and amplifies the materialistic spend! Society we live in. I remember the times years ago when there were no sales on anything (! Time to give some assistance to Papa Pea who is bringing wood up to the wood box on the porch. Then to fill the two wood holding racks next t...

A Home Grown Journal: Perfect Weather for Sleeping - Not Good in May!
http://ahomegrownjournal.blogspot.com/2015/05/perfect-weather-for-sleeping-not-good.html
Tuesday, May 12, 2015. Perfect Weather for Sleeping - Not Good in May! We can safely say the forest fire danger of the past several weeks is gone. We've been having successive days of gray, gloomy skies and plenty of rain. Large puddles are standing everywhere outside. This morning the temperature was 37 degrees . . . with snowflakes falling. Good gardening weather does not come early to the north woods. This spring weather (ha! Well, anyway, this weather is good for something. Sleeping! It's so exceptio...

A couple of days ago (or maybe it was many days ago, because you know how time flies when you're spending quality time in the kitchen with boat loads of fresh produce . . . day after day after day), Kristina at Pioneer Woman at Heart. Asked me if I would explain how I planted, harvested and preserved my shell peas. However, putting these thoughts of my inadequacies aside, let's talk peas. Supposedly it's not absolutely necessary to p...

A Home Grown Journal: Having The Mumps
http://ahomegrownjournal.blogspot.com/2015/05/having-mumps.html
Saturday, May 9, 2015. I don't know what in the world made me think of it today, but when I was in eighth grade I had the mumps. It spread like wildfire through my class that year so I wasn't the only one to suffer. But, oh my, suffer I did. It's no wonder so many of us were out of school with the mumps. A person who contracts the virus is contagious for six days before symptoms start to show and nine days after they start. What are the symptoms? Made me one very unhappy camper. I'm sure there are thousa...

As a new year begins, it's always interesting to look back over the past year and sort of see where one 'was' vs. where one feels they are 'now'. Made at year's end, the plaid McCall's M5252. But I am getting ahead of myself here. Let's go back to the beginning of the year where I was working on the NewLook 6261 sheath dress out of quilting cotton bird fabric to wear to my niece's wedding in February 2016. At the end of the 2015 year. I made the bird dress. In a mere 2 days! And another Burda jacket.

Lisa's Cartoons
November 11, 2011. In which I finally figure out the newsprint filter.) I was inspired today by this Brent Bozell piece at Clown Hall. And its creepy commenters. November 3, 2011. Despite what they may say, the “Personhood” movement really does intend to outlaw the pill along with abortion. Is nothing but a ruse to roll back decades of feminism. I hope Mississippians vote no on Initiative 26. I have been working on this cartoon for. Four panels = at least four times the work. But it was fun, as always.
