Saturday, October 22, 2011. Grass is one of the most important things in a game environment and adds immensely to the believability of the scene. Compare the following, the same scene with no grass or bushes and then with:. Without grass it's easy to pick up the tell-tale signs that you're playing a game: you can see the sharp edges of the ground mesh, see the perfectly sharp edges where objects intersect the ground and each other, see the flat ground textures etc. This brings me to the second point:.

Saturday, May 28, 2011. Zombie Survivors Block In. Phew, just finished blocking in everyone! This was really fun to do, and the diverse range of clothing, weapons, poses, ages etc etc etc. Plus the difficulty of getting everyone into the picture! But it's working out great so far and I've really enjoyed it. Friday, May 27, 2011. Zombie Survivors Group Photo! Thursday, July 28, 2011. A study of light and shadow. A few days ago I came up with an idea for a study. I wanted to know how to paint various lights and also how to paint the value and colour of shadows correctly. Here's the finished multiply layer over the apple in the light (left). Wednesday, February 15, 2012. Painting Tutorial - 2D/3D Integration. In this tutorial I go over how I integrate 3D elements into a 2D concept/illustration. This process involves taking a sketch of the object and using it to model the design in a 3D application. A simple greyscale render is then used in Gimp/Photoshop above set to multiply which creates the lighting and form. Can speed up the painting process, especially for simple designs easily created in 3D. Results in crisp paintings. Is a good guide.

Monday, June 27, 2011. After doing the 60x60m mockup terrain I learned some valuable lessons, with those in mind I plan on making rally the main focus of the terrain, probably doing another Greek terrain later on based around trails/crawling.
