What to do in Lochranza. Tel: 01770 830 273. Campsite History: The Tale of a Campsite, a Golf Course and a Fishing Village. In the early 19th century modern farming methods were introduced by The Duke of Hamilton of Brodick Castle and many villagers chose or were forced to leave the island in search of work. Lochranza's white houses date from this period when they were built as fishing crofts for the local people who remained and who mostly made a living from herring fishing.
