Laquo; February 12th. February 16, 2010 by lucygreaves. Today was Competition day, we had planned to use the idea of arch ways by stacking our bottle building blocks then Howard appeared…. He told us about the arts tower and that they were removing all the old windows and just had them stacked up in the building site behind it. Four of us headed down there and managed to talk to Nathan (the building site manager) who was more than happy for us to take them away and use them if we were careful! You are co...

Laquo; A trip to the glass factory! February 12, 2010 by lucygreaves. Today we began to think about the potential of glass and the possibility of trying to use in innovative ways. We were fairly stuck as all the ideas we thought about involved scavenging from skips or using glass bottles which did not seem to give us much to work with. Who said they could supply us with empty glass bottles when we needed a large amount! Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. Address never made public).

Archive for February, 2010. On February 16, 2010 Leave a Comment. Today was Competition day, we had planned to use the idea of arch ways by stacking our bottle building blocks then Howard appeared…. We really wanted to incorporate the old windows as we thought that using recycled parts of the arts tower would advertise both the recycling objective as well as using part of the iconic building in a project by ‘Sheffield Architecture Students’ that would be seen by members of the public. First we began by g...

A place for conversation. November 22, 2011. Thought it might be worth finishing the story…. We were given the opportunity to rebuild the structure somewhere in the grounds of the Crookesmoor Building. With the help of many volunteers and struggling through a day of relentless July wind and rain, the planks, broom handles and wooden rods were once again erected into their spiral form. Alex somehow managed to become friendly enough with the people working on the Arts Tower to allow us access to all the scrap timber on site. This turned out to be a massive find, which means we have an almost unlimited supply of wood. There were pallets and planks as well as large sheets of MDF and Chipboard. February 15, 2010. A place for conversation. A well good day. →. February 25, 2010. On friday we started measuring and cutting out the boards. But only just in the end of the day we had a minor setback when we tried out the initial jointing idea in a large scale, which ended up not being as strong and stable than we thought. We worked on the joints on Monday and Tuesday and managed to come up with a final plan for joints. 8230;and the cutting, measuring, sanding continued. This entry was posted in Uncategorized.

A place for conversation. Last day at the studio. March 3, 2010. A few pics from the big day. We were on site at 6am and finished for about 11am which we didn’t think was too bad considering the weather! It was all going swimmingly until the wind started to pick up and the structure began to creep closer and closer to the stairs! For safety reasons we decided to start dismantling. A place for conversation. Last day at the studio. February 26, 2010. Thursday we continued work. According to the design, measurements and angles for the bottom parts of the frames had been figured out, now we had to mark them down and cut them. But also just to be safe some extra pieces had to be sanded, drilled…. Now all we had to do was to get the pieces to the Moor this day, so we could start building up the construction on Friday as soon as possible. All together we have 19 sets. A well good day.

Let’s have a look at where E4 took their inspiration from in designing a structure that rated so highly on the clap-o-meter. Seating at The Moor. After visiting the site, they noticed that there was not a tree in the middle of one of the circular ceating areas, and by adding one made out of metal it would stimulate conversation.
