Lucy's Forever Home

Sunday, April 12, 2015. Houses may change but chairs are forever? You may recall the groovy picture I shared last year that showed what our kitchen looked like back in the 1960s and 1970s. One of the girls who grew up in the house had been in touch with me and sent some fantastic vintage photos of the interiors. At Christmas she was back in DC and stopped by with her son to have a look at the place. Last weekend her brother and his wife who still live in the area stopped by to see the house. Before these...

Lucy's Forever Home: A bit of everything (including Lucy)

http://www.lucysforeverhome.blogspot.com/2015/04/a-bit-of-everything-including-lucy.html

Saturday, April 4, 2015. A bit of everything (including Lucy). Before these pictures get too old I thought I would post them. Keep in mind all of the furniture is kind of in make-do mode. Nothing has been purchased since we moved back in. Living room looking into dining room. Mies daybed and table. Arco lamp. Frances Palmer bowl and votive holders. Refinished Danish modern. Family room peeking through on the right. Florence Knoll credenzas, Swan Island pillows. Dresser belonged to John's Grandmother.

Lucy's Forever Home: June 2014

http://www.lucysforeverhome.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html

Sunday, June 22, 2014. Stuff is happening outside too. New garage as seen from the deck off of our new master bedroom. The opening on the side will be a pair of lovely carriage house doors which you can see at the end of this post. Here's an uh-oh moment. Since we don't want our guests crashing down while they sit on their personal deck above the porch we are going to have to throw $3,700 at the problem. More demo work on the porch. Can't wait until this is fixed and screened in. The above mentioned carr...

Lucy's Forever Home: October 2014

http://www.lucysforeverhome.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html

Sunday, October 19, 2014. Marching bands aside, 'brassy' is never a good thing. Aging brass. I have to say, this is a project I resisted like mad. Months ago, when John first brought it up, the contractor and I both just wanted to pretend like we hadn't heard him. We have to dip what in what? We are beautiful, but too damn brassy. So why not get a finish that is closer to what we wanted? John wanted the properties of unlacquered brass- that is it ages and gets a nice patina over time, but didn't want to ...

Lucy's Forever Home: Wallpaper time warp Part II

http://www.lucysforeverhome.blogspot.com/2014/04/wallpaper-time-warp-part-ii.html

Saturday, April 26, 2014. Wallpaper time warp Part II. Turns out we did plan to take those stairs apart, but so far nothing has been found. There is a subfloor with planks that have gaps between them below the stairs so it is still possible we may find it if that gets opened up. 1970s Amy talking on what we children of the 70s refer to as a phone. You can just see the corner of a breakfast nook table behind her arm. By the time we bought the house that nook had been turned into a powder room. NEW BLOG ON...

May 29, 2015. This little Cape Cod beauty has me thinking about lemonade and Golden Retrievers. What a beauty. I can’t tell if those are stones set in mortar or discs of tree trunk. I particularly like sheds that use reclaimed and repurposed material. Do we think the boards are actually reclaimed or painted to look so?

At Home with MK. Notes about the world of homebuilding. Daydreaming about garden sheds. May 29, 2015. This little Cape Cod beauty has me thinking about lemonade and Golden Retrievers. This one is perhaps a little too studied and tidy to be a bona fide potting shed. it certainly could be. Just needs a bit more dirt. Modest in size but nicely detailed. This one actually makes the garden itself more interesting. What a beauty. I can’t tell if those are stones set in mortar or discs of tree trunk. Would you ...
