Malawi Musings: October 2008

http://www.malawimusings.blogspot.com/2008_10_01_archive.html

Tuesday, October 21, 2008. It seemed that Canada was calling us this week. As we relaxed by the poolside at the Korean restaurant Tuesday, enjoying the lights and evening coolness, anticipating the arrival of our bulgogi, it suddenly dawned on me the background music was Anne Murray. Well why not, eh? Cheers and best wishes. Monday, October 20, 2008. Did I tell you about the weather? Well there goes the power, right in the middle of dinner preparation. Jean-Marcel is not amused. Good thing the pa...Those...

Malawi Musings: April 2009

http://www.malawimusings.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html

Wednesday, April 22, 2009. The days are getting slightly shorter instead of those lovely, long northern evenings. We also had interesting glimpses of Malawi election fever during our recent holidays. Travis, who had just dropped in from Australia, w. Ent party’s colours. I guess there were going to be some “door prizes” at these events. Now, any traveler will tell you learning to read between the line. Another frequent claim is that “Malawi has some of the best roads in. Africa”. Read that as, ...Est Lod...

Malawi Musings: March 2009

http://www.malawimusings.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html

Sunday, March 29, 2009. It’s been a month of memorable. Moments. Highlights included the Domwe trip and a weekend in. For a mini safari. There are not a lot of animals to be seen at this time of year but lots of birds and it is a beautiful spot. My photos are posted at. The power outages reached a new peak this month as our spirits sagged to new lows with each black out. Fortunately our neighbours in this compound are kindred souls and we help lift each other up. Will the power ever come back? Wedding an...

Malawi Musings

http://www.malawimusings.blogspot.com/2009/03/normal-0-false-false-false.html

Sunday, March 8, 2009. Just back from a wonderful long weekend experience on. The former was a planned event and the latter a happy last minute addition to the itinerary. And what a lovely weekend it was. Domwe is a self catering island. We brought our own food and took turns so each couple prepared one meal and then the staff on the island did the cleaning up. Bonus! However, turned out to be more of an adventure than planned. Quite the road trip they have ahead of them. Http:/ www.kungoni.org/. Again, ...

Of Flowers, Poetry and Other Essentials…. August 10, 2015. Floral interpretation of fireworks. The Summer holidays have come and gone and we had an enjoyable time travelling to Creston, British Columbia, to visit with family and friends. We had our granddaughter Ella along for the ride as part of her 11th birthday celebration which is an event often carried over a couple of weeks. At times, some family birthdays were celebrated over a whole month, just ask our grandson Mylan. Enough digression. 8 thought...

Jean-Marcel – Of Flowers, Poetry and Other Essentials…

Of Flowers, Poetry and Other Essentials…. May 2, 2016. Let Go of Fear. Shoka shimputai of anthurium and plum blossoms. My last post entitled Fear. Generated a fairly lively dialogue, which I thoroughly enjoyed even though, in the end, there was no resolution. Five people favored the juxtaposition of heart. And mind while five other readers preferred art. And mind. One person remained neutral leaving me with the final decision, therefore, here goes the final version:. Paralyses art and mind. As I wander

Use Well the Days. August 3, 2015. My first roommate, Alicia, is heading home today. I’m texting her as I write this she’s sitting in the Blantyre airport about a half-hour away, waiting for her flight to Canada. Thirteen months seemed like forever when we first arrived, but here we are at the end of her term. I leave on Wednesday, but not for long I’ll be in the States for less than two weeks before coming back here. Ps Below is a video someone posted recently. I like the music, but what really stru...

Malawi Nearly There Yet

Malawi Nearly There Yet. Over the past month that I have been back in the UK I have been trying to find the words to put in a final blog on my life in Malawi. I have failed miserably in this task and have now come to the conclusion that although there is so much to be said knowing where to start is impossible and it always will be. What it takes to have a wash in the village. Pictures from R-L shower, boiling water, buckets). I was shocked at the level of drunkenness in the village. Continuing up to ...
