Tales from the World of Retail

Tales from the World of Retail. Wednesday, July 16, 2008. The bank we use has a "change request form" for businesses to use. There's a grid for bills and a grid for coins, each with their own subtotal box, and a grand total box at the bottom. In the coin request box, they have a column for "number of rolls" and a column for "dollar amount." So, for quarters I might list 3 rolls, $30. For dimes, 2 rolls, $10. They're used to dealing with rolls of coin! Posted by mamurd @ 9:29 PM. Tuesday, July 15, 2008.

Tales from the World of Retail: A Christmas Miracle

http://www.mamurd2.blogspot.com/2007/12/christmas-miracle.html

Tales from the World of Retail. Sunday, December 23, 2007. Well, not a miracle, per se, but a story with a happy, reaffirm-your-faith-in-humanity ending. She seemed pretty honest (and the computer is often wrong), so I went ahead and gave her one. She was very grateful and wished me Merry Christmas. Today she came back and returned it. She found the original one at home, so she came down today just to bring back the one I gave her yesterday. Posted by mamurd @ 6:42 PM. Tales from the World of Retail.

Tales from the World of Retail: So Close, But Oh-So-Far

http://www.mamurd2.blogspot.com/2008/06/so-close-but-oh-so-far.html

Tales from the World of Retail. Thursday, June 26, 2008. So Close, But Oh-So-Far. As a mom, kid, and grandma were leaving the store, mom and grandma noticed that the kid was carrying something that they hadn't paid for. I overheard them telling the kid that they couldn't take it home because they hadn't bought it. So far, so good, right? Shortly after they left, I found the aforementioned item lying five feet inside the front door of the store. So close to teaching a good lesson! I Got a Stamp.

Tales from the World of Retail: Dude, No.

http://www.mamurd2.blogspot.com/2008/07/dude-no.html

Tales from the World of Retail. Monday, July 14, 2008. Today a new guy started. He's a college student who's just here to help out during the summer. He showed up for his first day at a brand new job wearing a slightly ratty long-sleeved t-shirt (with sunglasses tucked in the collar), a baggy pair of shorts, and flip-flops. Posted by mamurd @ 10:04 PM. Makes me wonder what he wore to the interview and if he changed his "style" on day two. July 16, 2008 12:25 AM. July 16, 2008 9:29 PM. I Got a Stamp.

Catching Ducks: January 2006

http://mamurd.blogspot.com/2006_01_01_archive.html

My pride and joy, etc. I've been having issues with my household technology lately. I've had DVD's that won't play, a computer that freezes up under the slightest provocation, and now a TV that's "backfeeding" power, causing my cable (and, since it went through the same wires, my internet) to go out. Maybe I'll look into that Luddite thing. Except that would mean giving up my microwave. Never mind! Posted by mamurd @ 11:30 AM 1 comments. Tales from the World of Retail.

Catching Ducks: November 2005

http://mamurd.blogspot.com/2005_11_01_archive.html

My pride and joy, etc. So Last night during one of my dreams there was this lake. And I was told the temperature of the lake was 109 degrees. I was quite freaked. When I had to traverse it, I was very careful not to get any of the water on me (there were dry spots and trees I used to get across). However. I saw other people wading through (apparently it was a shallow. Lake), and they weren't being burned like I expected. When I woke up this morning I figured it out: To me, 109 means 109 Celsius.

Just Asking: March 2007

http://pedicularis.blogspot.com/2007_03_01_archive.html

Wednesday, March 28, 2007. I realized that we conservatives seem to be losing a war of words. Congress is voting on withdrawing from the "Iraq War" today. But Iraq is not a "War" but a "Battle". Withdrawing from the Iraqi Battle will not end the war, but it does guarantee that we will lose that battle, which would be a major setback in the War against Terrorists. Posted by Pedicularis @ 2:17 PM. Why don't they just admit they are not patriotic? Posted by Pedicularis @ 1:53 PM. Saturday, March 24, 2007.

Sunday, February 25, 2007. The Chilly Hill is a annual bike ride event on an island in Pugut Sound. 33 miles, hilly with over 2,600 feet gain and loss, and chilly, since it is always held in February. I rode it in the mid-80's and again this year. It was easier last time. There were probably over 1,000, maybe 1,500 riders on my ferry to the island. It took me about 3.5 hours to ride the course. Here is a photo of the 1,000 or so riders loading onto the return ferry. Posted by Pedicularis @ 9:43 PM. Histo...

My pride and joy, etc. Here in the northern hemisphere, summer is fast approaching. People are all cheerful about the blue skies, lack of rain, and warmer temperatures. Blue skies, no rain, and warm temperatures! I want clouds, and rain, and COLD! If one more person mentions the "nice" weather, I think I'm going to SCREAM. Posted by mamurd @ 6:25 PM 5 comments. http://pedicularis.blogspot.com/2006_11_01_archive.html

Wednesday, November 29, 2006. I had a bout with PVD over the weekend. I had flashing lights in my eyes and more floaters. I was afraid I had a detached retina, so I went to an eye doctor. I had never heard of PVD, but apparently it is quite common in old folks my age. The following quote from a medical web page describes my experiences pretty accurately:. Thursday, December 28, 2006. What I am and what I am not. I consider myself to be halfway between an engineer (who actually designs and oversees construction of things) and a scientist (who collects and analyzes data on scientific topics). I think of myself as a "Physical scientist" and I prefer to work in the world of Newtonian physics (no relativity, no high-energy physics). Posted by Pedicularis @ 9:21 PM.
