Urban Sketchers Memphis: Sketching at the Dixon in preparation for an Open Studio in the Garden drawing session scheduled for Friday, July 17
http://urbansketchers-memphis.blogspot.com/2015/07/sketching-at-dixon-in-preparation-for.html
Saturday, July 11, 2015. Sketching at the Dixon in preparation for an Open Studio in the Garden drawing session scheduled for Friday, July 17. Young artists in the Cutting Garden (Noodlers pen and ink and ink brush). I have always enjoyed making line drawings with pen and ink. But it can take some time to add textures and shading. Cutting Garden fountain ( ink wash). Another technique is to make shapes with a brush. This can be quicker but involves more equipment. Europa and the Bull (ink wash). The Cutt...

Urban Sketchers Memphis: Tennessee Brewery Sketches
http://urbansketchers-memphis.blogspot.com/2015/06/tennessee-brewery-sketches.html
Wednesday, June 17, 2015. The Tennessee Brewery is an incredible place, and probably perfect for sketching, but the truth is it's overwhelming. So I sketched the food truck. I made these brown lines with watercolor over Platinum Carbon (waterproof) ink - there are beams all over the place. In late April and early May we planned to sketch at a different place every Saturday to take advantage of the good weather. Hopefully we'll do that again in late September and in October! More Bass Pro Shop Sketches.

Urban Sketchers Memphis: Peter Bowman
http://urbansketchers-memphis.blogspot.com/2015/08/peter-bowman.html
Friday, August 7, 2015. Local artist Peter Bowman, who had attended several gatherings of Memphis Urban Sketchers, passed away last Friday. Peter's sketches always amazed me - his mark-making was bold and purposeful, and his sketches always seemed like fully-formed paintings. For that reason I always show examples of his sketches when I teach sketching classes. Here are some sketches that Peter made with us over the years. We will miss him! Peter's supplies: old markers and highlighters in a ziploc bag.

Joy murray — books*art*life. A Trip to Memphis. October 14, 2016. October 14, 2016. I went to Memphis, my hometown, for the month September, 2016, with a sketchbook and a commitment to do a lot of drawings. I’d hoped to draw all my friends, but instead drew whatever struck my fancy. I worked on the journal title page as the month went by:. The first full day there, my Memphis sister-friend and host Judy took me to see the play The Devil’s Music: The Life and Blues of Bessie Smith, presented by the ...

Urban Sketchers Memphis: Spring Visit to Elmwood Cemetery
http://urbansketchers-memphis.blogspot.com/2015/06/spring-visit-to-elmwood-cemetery.html
Thursday, June 11, 2015. Spring Visit to Elmwood Cemetery. Elmwood Cemetery is one of our favorite places to sketch, though it's hard to get the weather to cooperate no matter when we go. This outing was a little colder than expected for late April, which is when summer usually starts in Memphis. Eight of us braved the chill and wind and tiny bit of drizzle to do some quiet, productive sketching. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Our drawings are a record of time and place. 4. 8226; Still Life. Mary Jo Kennard Artist. I feel it is important for an artist to look to the past and draw upon elements from the work of those who have gone before us, without being derivative, and to continue looking at art from early paintings to the most contemporary. I'm influenced by many artists: from the early Renaissance painters to mid-20th Century masters and my own contemporaries. Oil on canvas 12 x12. Mary Jo Upcoming Show.
