How do Students Read Math Textbooks? October 5, 2013 · 7:38 am. How do Students Read Math Textbooks? In the last blog post, we wrote a bit about the following two questions:. What can we reasonably expect students to learn as a result of reading? In what ways will students struggle to make sense of the section? The short answer appeared to be: Students will struggle in many ways, and we can’t expect students to learn very much from reading their textbook. Which is also called reader-response criticism.
