Mt. St. Helens

We paid a visit to Mt. St. Helens at the end of May and were very lucky with the weather and got some good photos. Click on any of the thumbnails below to see a larger version of the photo. Mt St Helens is not very far from Portland, the driving distance is about 110 miles, but that includes first driving 50 miles up I-5 from Portland to Castle Rock and then another 55 miles along 504 from Castle Rock to the Johnston Ridge Observatory which is only 5 miles from the volcano crater. Boston Snow, December 7, 2003. On Sunday, December 7 2003 Boston received over 2 feet of snow. I of course felt the need to take a little walk and document all of this, starting in our backyard where you clearly can see the snow piled up on the table. I clearly wasn't going to be able to ride my bike anywhere. The snow piled up everyhere, including on the fence in our backyard. Peru - Salkantay Trail Hike. Some time in 2012, our good friends Donna and Tracy mentioned during one of our regular hikes with our dogs that they were planning on going a hiking trip to Peru to visit Machu Picchu. Alyssa who for a very long time had wanted to go there immediately invited us to tag along on their trip. Friday, August 23 - Lima. Saturday, August 24 - Cusco. Sunday, August 25 - Travelling to Salkantay Lodge. Monday, August 26 - Training Hike. Saturday, August 31 - All day at Machu Picchu.

Another trip we did at the end of May was to drive along the Historic Columbia River Highway. The highway was built in the late 1910s primarily to allow the public to enjoy the scenery along the river and was the first scenic highway built in USA.
