Statement « Matthew Allison
http://www.mattallisonceramics.com/statement
Whether sake vessel or non-functional object, each of these pieces represents my decidedly Western interpretation of a Japanese aesthetic, which I believe blends asymmetrical balance, quiet elegance, and the natural with visual evidence of the process. I borrow aspects of the long human tradition of functional ceramic vessels such as vertical orientation and a premeditated opening because functional vessels are at the root of humanity’s relationship with clay.
