Monday, August 31, 2009. Sabbatical Day 1: Organization, Restoration, Rejunvenation. I have seven weeks off from work. Seven incredible, precious, fragile weeks. I say precious and fragile because I'm so achingly aware of how important every minute of each hour of every day of this "free time" is. It's hard to believe Day 1 is already over! There is at least one overnight camping trip in our near future, and one trip to Taos for a storytelling festival. Otherwise, I intend to regularly go to yoga and pla...

Wednesday, June 24, 2009. A few words on this, our first "Wordless Wednesday" post: I'm stealing this brilliant concept from our good friends the Luceros. So I beg their forgiveness and permission (and the same from whomever they may have borrowed "Wordless Wednesday" from- teehee). Posted by Jonathan and Valerie. Saturday, June 20, 2009. The Long, Strange Trip. And the trouble only. After passing through Santa Fe and Raton to cross the Colorado border, we made our first stop: Rino's Italian Restaurant.

Friday, November 27, 2009. Sabbatical Recap IV - Adventures in Art. I spent a good deal of time in the art world during my sabbatical, and for that, I am grateful. Not only did I visit local museums to appreciate others' art, but I had the opportunity to enroll in a couple of art classes: another monotypes class at New Grounds Print Workshop. In Albuquerque and a unique course called "Bridging the Gap", with celebrated local artist Deborah Gavel. We read the book. Smile of the Buddha. During my time off,...

Right Turn at Albuquerque©: Musical Inclinations
http://rightturnatabq.blogspot.com/2010/04/two-reasons-weve-been-so-busy-and-not.html
Sunday, April 25, 2010. Two of several reasons we've been so busy (and not updating the blog):. I'm taking fiddle lessons while Jon is enrolled in guitar. We've also been practicing and teaching ourselves at home from online video tutorials and sheet music. It's such a blast, we're wondering why we didn't pursue music this passionately earlier in our lives. Our first round of lessons ends in just a couple of weeks, and we'll miss them! Then my brothers took a stab at playing my violin- which was pretty f...

Sunday, September 27, 2009. Report from Sabbatical, Day 28. It was my intention to chronicle each day of my 7-week sabbatical, but after Day 1, I found that I enjoyed being away from computers so much, that I couldn't even bear to update our blog! It's been just the break I needed, since I typically spend most of every waking day on a computer for work and social catch-up (and just general surfing around). To support breast cancer research. On my own, I've taken two art classes (but haven't produced anyt...

Friday, June 4, 2010. Jon and I spent our 6th anniversary in Kokopelli Cave in Farmington, NM. It should be one of the seven wonders of the world- a 1250 sq. ft. cave blown out of the sheer cliff face, fully furnished and stocked with all manner of food, drinks, and amenities. It was the perfect, romantic way to celebrate our six years together! After our one-night stay in the cave, we visited nearby Mesa Verde national park. To see the amazing ancient cliff dwellings of the Anasazi. What We Write About.

Sincere Green: January 2012

Exploring the big and little ways that sustainability comes to life. Sunday, January 29, 2012. I'm getting married next summer, and it has occurred to me more than a few times that 'green weddings' are so much easier said than done. A quick google search will introduce you to plenty of blogs, consultants, and planners with advice and services to help couples plan a 'green wedding' (Rent a hybrid limo! Choose a LEED certified venue! Ask your caterer to use organic ingredients! I realized recently, though,...
