When past experiences unconsciously affect our perceptions, thoughts and actions. A memory that is covered-up for a more dangerous, id-governed memory. A qwriting.qc.cuny.edu blog. September 8th, 2010. While reading St. Augustine’s. A word that is often repeated but not clearly defined is the term. Could refer to a physical weakness, but I believe that St. Augustine uses the term as meaning a moral weakness. While reading Schachter, I came across the word. I’m not completely sure if that is a correct synonym, but that’s what I think of when trying to figure out what it means, plus it’s easy to remember because they rhyme. In, Plato’s Theatatus, several ideas about the way that memory works are introduced. Many of these ideas try to make the complex way that the brain works simplified. Plato tries to explain a difficult topic, one that with today’s modern technology is still not clear, so that a more everyday audience can better grapple the idea.
