Thursday, June 05, 2008. I boarded the Starbound on the 31st of April. It is a 240 ft fishing boat bound for the Bering sea. It drags a trawl net to catch Walleye Pollock, which is processed by the 100 people on board. Picture: A tug pulling the Starbound out of the locks. Monday, February 25, 2008. Working for Bella Energy. The pictures are from a job that was done for Boulder Housing Partners, an organisation that provided low income housing in the Boulder area. Saturday, September 08, 2007. wandering thoughts: My apartment

http://www.mattrip.blogspot.com/2007/10/my-apartment.html

Saturday, September 01, 2007. I moved into the Edgewood Apartments in Westminster, a western suburb of Denver. I got my couch, bed, bike, and coffee table at the flea market, I got the desk and chair at the thrift store. Bering Sea, AK, United States. I am back out on the Bering sea for the summer, trying to finance my education. At least that is the plan, it felt too good to leave Colorado and going back to school and work seems less appealing when hanging out with the free and easy observing crowd.

wandering thoughts: August 2007

Wednesday, August 15, 2007. Photo: Trucks at rest stop in Idaho. Saturday, August 11, 2007. At the end of every contract I have to pass through Seattle to make sure that all of the data I collected is in the proper format and was obtained using valid methods. I took good advantage of the time in the Northwest. I got in some camping on Mt Hood with Dad, Uncle Bob and Andrea; a family reunion; and some rock climbing and river riding with Juliette. Tuesday, May 29, 2007. Picture: Kristina Lena looking up at Jesus. We sat on padded benches regarding the statue for a while. A tour group came through and the guide pressed a button promting the deep resonating voice of God to speak about the creation of the cosmos. Friday, May 25, 2007. Thursday, May 24, 2007. Wednesday, May 23, 2007. Sequoia and Kings Canyon. After driving along a road next to a raging river through the narrow Kings Canyon I arrived at the Road’s End trail head. Looking at t...It is a...

wandering thoughts: December 2006

http://www.mattrip.blogspot.com/2006_12_01_archive.html

Saturday, December 23, 2006. After finishing my first contract in Alaska, I headed to my parents new home in Alliston, Ontario Canada. I stayed for about a month before signing on to a volunteer project in the Aceh region of Indonesia with my sister, Laura. For the last 3 months I have been staying at Mom and Dad's house. I have been organizing my pictures from the last several years, watching too much television and occasionally getting out with people from church to go paint balling, play games, or...

wandering thoughts: March 2007

http://www.mattrip.blogspot.com/2007_03_01_archive.html

Saturday, March 31, 2007. I spent most of my time staying at the company appartment. It was really nice just to stretch out on the couch and watch television and check my email at the same time. Tuesday blew snow all day long. Which was alright with me, I couldn't go hiking but at least there were no flights coming into Dutch and the Intrepid had to wait until Wednesday to get the new crew. Picture: Doug and Ziggy on top of a hill near Summer's bay. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.

the ice and other interests: still sitting in sydney

http://ice-interests.blogspot.com/2007/03/still-sitting-in-sydney.html

The ice and other interests. A summer in Antarctica wasn't exactly what I dreamed about when I was young, or something I aspired to do from college, or even something I expected to be doing last spring. But, I have been offered a unforgettable working adventure trip of sorts. Departing in October and a returning in the unknown, I'll spend roughly 5 months at the southern end of the world, shuttling folk around McMurdo Station. Sunday, March 18, 2007. Out of the Nest (mostly). Hoping that my awkward flapping turns into flight before I hit the ground. Sunday, November 16, 2008. That's right folks, it doesn't matter what race or sexual orientation you hail from, you have the right to be married to the partner of your choosing. No If's, no And's, no But's. second summer on ice: jack in brisbane

http://second-summer.blogspot.com/2008/03/jack-in-brisbane.html

Second summer on ice. Always summer, never warm. This is the mantra painted in the Coast Guard's. Icebreaker. While enjoying warm summers up north I've chosen a second chilly summer in McMurdo Station, Antarctica. Sunday, March 16, 2008. We tried to get Jack Johnson. We were beginning to doubt that anyone would come forward with passes, but finally a guy passed us with a yellow envelope and we got our tickets after all! The concert was a blast! Came up and was so fun to hear in concert. A sell-out crowd ...
