Makine Mühendisliği Bölümü ilk kez 1970 yılında Eskişehir, Devlet Mühendislik Mimarlık Akademisi olarak kurulan Akademi bünyesinde eğitim, öğretim ve araştırma faaliyetlerine başlamıştır. 1993 yılından itibaren Osmangazi Üniversitesi Mühendislik Mimarlık Fakültesi bünyesine katılmıştır.
