Our family heritage had its beginnings 1776 when Enoch Mead of Greenwich, with his bride, Jemima, discovered Long Pond, now called Waccabuc, on their horseback wedding trip. They fell in love with the rolling, wooded land, not long before an Indian hunting ground, and later acquired a large tract around the lake. By 1882, George and Sarah Frances had been blessed with six boys and six girls, many of whom were born in the little Lakeview Cottage on the edge of the woods, west of where the chapel now stand...

Mead Memorial Chapel engages Mead descendants to perpetuate the heritage of the founding family. To this end, we serve extended Mead family and the Waccabuc community in support of religious, cultural, educational, charitable, and other compatible activities. MMC Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees for Mead Memorial Chapel is an all volunteer board, and are to this day all related by birth or marriage to Grandma Mead (Sarah Frances Studwell Mead 1838-1919) who had the chapel built in 1905.

Sarah Frances Studwell Mead. Sarah Frances Studwell was born on February 6th 1838 to John Jay Studwell and Elizabeth LaFarge Moore, who were married on September 18, 1836. She was named for her father's only sister, Sarah, but was called by her full name of Sarah Frances by her parents.
