Dishy News - A Transferware Blog: CUMULATIVE RHYMES ON CHILDREN'S POTTERY
http://dishynews.blogspot.com/2014/02/cumulative-rhymes-on-childrens-pottery.html
Friday, February 21, 2014. CUMULATIVE RHYMES ON CHILDREN'S POTTERY. A cumulative nursery rhyme or poem is when one rhyme builds on another. It is an excellent teaching tool for children because memory and brain development are aided by numerous verses hooked together by rhymes and repetition. The House That Jack Built. Who Killed Cock Robin. Are examples of cumulative rhymes, and both are found on pottery made for the 19th century child. The House That Jack Built. Indicates that it is featured on a mug).

http://dishynews.blogspot.com/2015/07/feathers.html
Tuesday, July 21, 2015. Feather Edge 8.6 inch creamware plate, late 18th or early 19th century. I started writing this post when I heard about the death of Robin Williams. This is not a post about feather edge. I wrote about feather edge for another post titled Shell Edge Or Feather Edge. I was first introduced to this poem when I read Woody Allen's 1970s book Without Feathers. July 24, 2015 at 3:48 PM. Very wise words Julie, and so understanding of the true nature of depression. Emily Dickinson is a...

Dishy News - A Transferware Blog: YELLOW PRINTED BROWNWARE
http://dishynews.blogspot.com/2013/11/yellow-printed-brownware.html
Wednesday, November 20, 2013. I have been intrigued with transferware items printed in yellow on a brown body. My husband likes this style of printing so much that I often give it to him as a present (although I rarely find it). When I searched the Pattern And Source Print Database of the Transferware Collectors Club. I found 22 patterns printed in yellow on a brown body. Michael Bailey of England calls it "Yellow Printed Brownware" or YPB. Maker Unknown, Plate, 6.5 inches, ca. 1810. Most of the items fo...

Dishy News - A Transferware Blog: RECOGNITION OF THE FAMILIAR AND TRANSFERWARE COWS
http://dishynews.blogspot.com/2015/08/recognition-of-familiar-and.html
Sunday, August 2, 2015. RECOGNITION OF THE FAMILIAR AND TRANSFERWARE COWS. Eleven inch coffee pot. The cow pattern on a rather battered coffee pot seemed familiar. Once the pattern was imprinted on my brain, I saw it everywhere! Well, not exactly everywhere, but I did find the three cows (sometimes two cows) on four other pieces; a child's plate, a platter, a creamer, and a cup plate. Close-up of the three cows. Is the standing cow facing the right actually a bull? Shell edge 4.25 inch cup plate with...

Thursday, July 16, 2015. TRANSFERWARE TOAST WATER JUGS AND RECIPES. Davenport (1794-1887) Toast Water Jug, ca. 1850. I wondered why some of the jugs in my collection had lids as well as strainers in front of the spouts. I learned they were known as toast water jugs, and were used for medicinal purposes. What is toast water? According to Coysh and Henrywood's The Dictionary Of Blue And White Printed Pottery 1780-1880 Volume II. In early editions of her Book of Household Management.
