West Mersea Town Regatta - Cobmarsh Marathon

The Cobmarsh Marathon is a pair-oared Rowing Race in Smacks' Boats not exceeding 14ft. following a course of 1.2 miles around Cobmarsh Island. The start is by Ted Woolf's Shed on Coast Road, and is open for anyone to enter on the day. The main race is then followed by various other 'light hearted' races suitable for any type of rowing boat. There are usually a large number of spectators for this event who watch from the grass bank. Full details of all times and races may be found in the Regatta Programme.

DISPLAYS AND STALLS ON THE CAR PARK and at the VICTORY HOTEL. Regatta souvenir clothing will be available. MUSIC EVENTS ON THE CAR PARK. PRIZEGIVING - 7.30 pm. On the Town Hard Green. 20 minute GRAND DISPLAY. At approximately 9.00 pm. Listen for the '5 Minute Rocket'. The fireworks are funded entirely by West Mersea Town Regatta.

To celebrate the opening of the Native Oyster Season at West Mersea, a fleet of Smacks, Bawleys and Bumkins will Dredge under sail. SUNDAY 11th SEPTEMBER 2016 1100 hrs - 1300 hrs. OFF SEAVIEW AVENUE, WEST MERSEA. Followed by the Weigh-in and Prizegiving at 1400 hrs at. THE PACKING SHED, THORNFLEET, WEST MERSEA. Casting of first dredge by the Mayor of Mersea. Saturday 20 August 2016. The Sailing Races were cancelled. In 2016 due to high winds on the day. Take place on Regatta Day morning. There are about 13 different classes which include smacks, dinghies and cruisers, so there is a suitable class for every sailing boat to enter. The River Blackwater is literally full of boats! For many sailors, this is the only race they will do in the year, giving them an opportunity to compare their performance against other similar boats. Along with an Entry Form.
