That Darn Pearl! | The Good Word
https://pastorbrad12.wordpress.com/2014/11/12/that-darn-pearl
A Blog by Messiah Lutheran Church's Pastor Brad Otto. November 12, 2014. What’s the good word? I have had a series of ups and downs lately. Nothing big, but a series of irritations, so to speak. Truth is I was saying to folks, “I’m not letting it bother me! It all begins with a grain of sand that gets into the oyster’s shell and this irritates the oyster so terribly. No matter what the oyster does it cannot rid itself of the little grain of sand. And that’s the good word for today. Been there, done that,...

Holding on to my faith and sanity…. Kristin Herdy’s Quest for the Holy Landfill →. To Love A (Wo)Man. September 12, 2011. And you know what I found in the silence? There’s no big announcement there. I’m not getting married or anything. I’m talking about the love of friends and family and kids and regular readers. I’ve found that love isn’t some grand romantic gesture but a card in the mail on the day you want to give up. Love makes you dinner and draws you pictures in crayon (Thanks, Sara! I’ve bee...

Kristin Herdy’s Quest for the Holy Landfill | Messiah Mom
https://messiahmom.wordpress.com/2011/09/20/kristin-herdys-quest-for-the-holy-landfill
Holding on to my faith and sanity…. To Love A (Wo)Man. Kristin Herdy’s Quest for the Holy Landfill. September 20, 2011. I’m an auntie! More on that later. On the way to and from the hospital to see my nephew, I drive along a country highway, dotted with several large estates and ranches. What you notice as you pass are the iron gates, large houses, softly rolling green. Who should bear the brunt of the landfill? Those who produce the most waste? Those who can’t afford to stop the initiative? Reading thos...

Death by GPS, part I | Messiah Mom
https://messiahmom.wordpress.com/2011/08/09/death-by-gps-part-i
Holding on to my faith and sanity…. In the swing →. Death by GPS, part I. August 9, 2011. The girls and I traveled, along with my mom and sister, to Dallas this weekend for a girly getaway. On the way home, we turned to the GPS to get us back on the road. “Nancy,” our GPS, kept trying to get us on a highway blocked by large orange barrels and flashing lights. A few weeks ago, though, I read this piece on NPR. Tree icons are merely representations of reality, a cheap simulation of the richness of nature.

June | 2014 | The Good Word
https://pastorbrad12.wordpress.com/2014/06
A Blog by Messiah Lutheran Church's Pastor Brad Otto. Archive for June, 2014. Thoughts After LifeChurch.tv. June 16, 2014. What’s the good word? A couple of things as I wrap up my time here in Oklahoma City with my visit to Lifechurch.tv. We are on the right track. We need to continue to make decisions today that will continue the growth for tomorrow. We need to continue to strive for excellence in all we do. Excellence honors God and it inspires people. It was a really great experience up here, and I am...

Thinking Out Loud…. Here’s a cool site I’ve been on a lot lately – World Prayers. Even before I became a church going man I always had something like a “book” type interest in religion. I can honestly say I think Scientology is a racket. I’ve read on old Norse religion, which is like a demi-god mythology type belief. It was pretty weird. Not feasible in this era. maybe an ancient way of thinking? I wonder which is older, poly or mono -theism. 7 March 2011 Categories: Uncategorized. Today I sat in a very ...

A Blog by Messiah Lutheran Church's Pastor Brad Otto. July 9, 2014. What’s the good word? It’s about living out the Great Commission and going out in service. It’s a part of our purpose statement and it’s a part of who we are called to be as disciples. And I will stake a flag on that summit any day! And that’s the good word for today. In the swing | Messiah Mom
https://messiahmom.wordpress.com/2011/08/16/in-the-swing
Holding on to my faith and sanity…. Death by GPS, part I. To Love A (Wo)Man →. August 16, 2011. When I was a little girl, my grandpa had strung a plank of wood between two trees and I would sit on the swing for hours, back and forth, back and forth, back and forth. Photo by Norman Rehme. Days spent in that yard, days spent on that swing, days spent where my cares were lifted high with my feet, sent skyward on my girlish sandals, those days are summer to me. I will see you again in a couple of weeks.
