Mixed Metaphors: March 2015
https://www.metaphoricalmix.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Tuesday, March 17, 2015. The Joy of Illiteracie. Recently, critics hereabouts have taken me to task for not reading more. Well, its true: except for, say, bank statements and bills, I’ve developed an aversion to practically the whole of literature. I’d rather spend time writing twaddle of my own than reading somebody else’s. But if you’re determined to gobble up books and such, what would be the point of it? Or again from Ignorance. To be sure, these are only two random clinkers from fiction and from the...

Friday, April 17, 2015. Spring was drawing nigh. I hadn’t seen Raleigh for awhile and suspected reflexively he must be getting up to something. When it comes to the devices of himself, scarcity for Raleigh usually spells chicanery. What was it this time? Or the basics of molecular biology? Raleigh is that kind of smart. Curiosity, if not suspicion, getting the better of me, I made up my mind to track Raleigh down. That meant keeping a midnight watch in the garden of coonly delights, the backyard of m...
Mixed Metaphors: Old Kentucky Home

Friday, July 3, 2015. 8232;Summertime and the living was easy. Raleigh relished it, had no compunctions about availing himself of Nature’s bounty, fruits and vegetables from my backyard orchard and garden. By his lights, the food was simply there for the taking – “to share,” as he put it succinctly. What’s more, he was of the opinion that today’s homo sapiens. Weren’t nearly sapient enough when it came to their waste lines – consuming, as wont they seemed, way more than was good for them. Raleigh had edu...

Friday, August 29, 2014. Trufflems – Pseudo-amnesia and the Google Image Search. It sounds technical, but it really isn’t. By pseudo-amnesia I don’t mean feigned memory loss. I mean a kind of false memory evoked by objective evidence of a prior real one now completely forgotten – a memory of a memory, so to speak, a true-false memory. What I’ll refer to as a trufflem. But let me explain. The Berlin wall had gone up just six years before, and the Cold War was at its height. So was the war in Viet Nam.

Monday, July 27, 2015. How many kinds of hugs. Can you think of? Depending upon the circumstances, hugs might express strong emotion or perhaps little emotion at all. Either way, they’re a form of so-called haptic communication. Here’re a few of them. Strong, hearty, and sometimes. Uplifting. Has versions in wrestling, social. Greeting, political theater, and amongst bears. A fee ( 1. Opposite of bear hug. Most doggies like hugs. A way politicians greet one other short of declaring war. But, hey,. 8232;S...

How I love to laugh. March 20, 2014. If we couldn’t laugh we would all go insane. I notice I’m laughing a lot, lately. Loud, belly laughter, that rumbles and ripples and bounces off the walls. Sometimes it’s about random shit, other times it’s about things that are ‘actually funny’. I notice how much I love making other people laugh. I love, love, love, how humour ripples. I love how it’s contagious. Me as well as just feel me. That, along with the video below, is a good reason to laugh. March 17, 2014.

A Metaphorical Mind | Life is a metaphor — just like this sentence.
Life is a metaphor just like this sentence. Happy Independence Day, India! How Education Can Free India’s People. Posted in Editorial: Thoughts and Rants. Happy Independence Day, India! But I was spared the hardships that so many millions of people suffer everyday. Recently, I learned that India is the home to 287 million illiterate people. When you can actually realize how many people this disables from having a job, having rights, having an opportunity to do. Education is what can free the world, and e...

Inside out
Onde germina calada a podridão. Porque os outros se calam mas tu não. Porque os outros se compram e se vendem. E os seus gestos dão sempre dividendo. Porque os outros são hábeis mas tu não. Porque os outros calculam mas tu não.

Monday, April 9, 2018. Unscripted Reactions to Candid Photography. There are only two styles of portrait painting: the serious and the smirk.". 8211; Charles Dickens. Who can get enough of the personal image, especially if it’s of you? Painted nearly eighty self-portraits;. Portraiture emphasizing facial likeness was little known until the time of 18. In the 14th century BC. The first portraits to appear in a truly natural or realistic modern-day style were probably the Fayum mummy portraits. During the ...

Sunday, October 12, 2014. The Random Question Tag. I was tagged by Gloria @ Gloria The Violinist. Have you ever thrown a book? Have I ever NOT thrown a book? Yes I have, usually when I'm frustrated or upset, but I quickly check it for any damages, and then feel remorseful. Do you like lengthy books or short ones? If you don’t like a book, do you stop reading it or finish it? I immediately put it down. I'll only finish it if starts out well and towards the very end worsens. How do you organize your shelf?
