We had a relationship with the Universidad del Carmen and were able to stay with host families, work at botanical gardens, an orphanage, and traveled to many Mayan ruins. Just another WordPress.com site. If you are HORRIBLE with directions like my brother, Itzmal is NOT for you. Literally every building is painted yellow, which makes it very hard to navigate if one relies on landmarks. Unfortunately I do not have a single picture of this city from my travels, so the pictures you see below are from google images. Itzmal has a very interesting history. Just another WordPress.com site. Most people are familiar with the pyramids of Chichen Itza. Here’s some things you may not know. About a 100 yards away, at a certain angle, our guide made a sound with his mouth that echoed off the pyramid and created a much larger sound. It was the equivalent of pushing a button and sounding an alarm; although this was just done with stone and geometry. This amazed me. This was used as a warning/distress call to alert the Mayans of danger. Just like in Chichen Itza!
