Corsets, Cutlasses, and Candlesticks. Debut YA and Middle-Grade Authors of Historical Tales. December 8, 2014. Most of the audience gasped, because most of us had lived through the 70s, making it difficult to believe it could be considered history. However, part of me still balks at the thought of writing (or reading) something historical that is set d...

Katharine Owens: The Insect Collector: Portfolio and Projects
http://katharineowens.blogspot.com/p/portfolio-and-projects.html
My work melds my interests in science, the environment, and public policy. I am particularly interested in the way humankind influences nature, habitats, and species. My projects focus on issues like society's use of technology, species extinction, and climate change. I use simple tools and processes in my home studio (all hand-wrought, no printing presses) to create wood and linoleum block prints that reflect this intersection of humankind and nature. In other countries, people subscribe to the concept of domestic social programs because they believe that society benefits when its weakest members are taken care of in the most basic way. According to Christa's blog: " The Jan Plan will involve committing to finish one project. One. However you define 'finish'. Just doing what you have to do to get one project out of your unfinished knitting basket.". So, what will I do for MY Jan Plan? Two things, actually. (I'm bending the rules already).

Monday, November 25, 2013. I cannot believe that it's time again for Liza Weimer's annual Read-a-thon. Here's the basic idea: Read and give. You pledge to donate based on the amount you read during the read-a-thon. You can pick an amount per page ( a penny a page, a dime a page, etc.) or an amount per book (a dollar a book, five dollars a book). Then, you spend the weekend of December 6th-8th reading and donate your pledged amount to the charity of your choice. That I host year-round. With prizes, etc.
