Tuesday, July 24, 2012. A beautiful and quiet set of islands off the northeastern coast of peninsular malaysia. From there we went to georgetown, penang. An early center of british colonial activity in malaysia. georgetown is the home of fort cornwallis - named after a general whom americans will remember as a first-class surrenderer. Georgetown is also home to many interesting and well-preserved buildings, and the architecture of the city blends malay, chinese, and european elements. a t. I am hesitant ...

Thursday, January 24, 2013. Earlier this month, i made a visit with a friend to the shedd aquarium. In chicago. despite having lived in chicago for 8 years, this was my first trip to the aquarium. Near the top of the list of cutest animals must be the sea otters - although i still cannot believe that their fur can grow as thick as 1 million strands. Of hair per square inch. and the jellyfish were marvelous:. We did not, however, see the (purportedly) immortal jellyfish. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Friday, May 31, 2013. Last week I traveled to Nicaragua with a group of professors from Boston College. The purpose of the trip was to introduce BC faculty to Nicaragua, and to open doors for future faculty involvement with international teaching and service in Central America or elsewhere. In essence, we spent the week as students, learning about the history and people of Nicaragua. We met with students at the Universidad Centroamericana. And the director of a development research center. We attended ma...

Goodness, Happiness, and the Case of the Homosexual Male. Sunday, December 8, 2013. Natural Law, Natural Goodness, and Evolution. That some people like to point out is that that Thomas Aquinas envisioned the concept of "evolution" long ago. From the Summa Theologica. The Lord hath created a new thing upon the earth." Miracles also are new works, of which it is said ( Eccles. 36:6. Nothing under the sun is new, for it hath already gone before, in the ages that were before us." (Emphasis mine). Have signif...

Monday, January 14, 2013. Holiday travels: family and friends. I am back in boston for the spring semester, after several weeks of travels and visits with family and friends. here are a few pictures from those visits. the first two are of my grandmother, who lives in vaucluse, SC. January 15, 2013 at 2:08 AM. The smudges that make for a dirty window sure add a nice depth to that photo. This and the other one I mentioned are some of the best pictures we have of her. Thanks.
