The Civil War 1861 - 1865. Three companies from the Micanopy area served in the Army of the Confederate States of America. One was Captain William Powell, whose photograph shows him in the uniform of The Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina from which he graduated in 1859. The Town of Micanopy. Today, Micanopy has entered the new century with strong roots to the past. For the past 41 years, thousands have gathered under the old oak trees for the Micanopy Fall Festival.
