Michael Magras's blog. Book reviews and more. The Lost Child, by Caryl Phillips. March 2, 2015. My first review for BookPage is a review of. The new novel by Caryl Phillips. Phillips is the author of such works as the novels. And the essay collections. A New World Order. He is known for works about the African diaspora. The subject of his latest work, however, may strike some readers as a departure: a reimagining of the Emily Brontë classic. You can read my review here. My Favorite Books from 2014. Micha...

Michael Magras's blog. Book reviews and more. My Favorite Books from 2014. December 7, 2014. July 17, 2015. These eight books were my favorites from 2014 (links take you to my corresponding Bookreporter review):. All the Light We Cannot See. Anthony Doerr I wrote in May that I didn’t expect to read a better book in 2014, and I was right. Doerr’s novel proves that it’s possible to find fresh and exciting stories about World War II. All the Light We Cannot See. Is one of McEwan’s finest novels. The Lost Ch...

bookdiscovery: Evergreen
http://bookdiscovery-jeanne.blogspot.com/2014/06/evergreen.html
June 20, 2014. Rebecca Rasmussen’s second novel describes the life of three generations of a family living in northern Minnesota, from 1938 to 1972. Eventually Huxley, Eveline’s son, learns of the existence of his sister and goes in search of her. Whether bringing her back to Evergreen is a good decision or not is debatable, as Naamah’s early life, combined with seven years of wild living in logging camps, have not provided a good base for settling down to domestic life, even a rustic one. 2016 reading l...

Tuesday, May 20, 2014. Motivated by the suspension of famous Spanish writer Javier Marias' blog because of license infringement, I searched the web and found the following comparison of licenses to stay on the safe side when reusing, mentioning or modifying content found on the web. The infringement was reported by Michael Magras. All the three licenses have something in common: they all deal with author's rights. They just differs in the way they protect them. Let's get down to business. Por www.mor...

Back in November I wrote about being chosen for the FictionKNITsta cross-Canada book tour. Several women authors were paired with a knitter who would read the author’s book, then create a wearable item or accessory for the author, based on a theme or idea from the book. I was thrilled to be included in this venture, and delighted to be assigned to read Milosz. How to interpret any of these themes through knitting? I also liked this pattern because it looks a bit like vines climbing a trellis, and this re...

Milosz, FictionKNITsta update. Over the weekend I made a few decisions about the FictionKNITsta project. So, the item will be a scarf. But what about the colour, the style, the yarn? Http:/ www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/thayer. For the pattern. It is very lacy and open and light, perfect for the Spring tour. It looks complicated but is actually a four-row repeat so should actually be relatively simple to reproduce.(In theory! We'll see—as I've never knitted lace before, this could be interesting!

Salute to Buffleheads (and other black-and-white ducks of winter). With your “bad-hair-day” crest. Lesser Skaup and Gold-eye,. Beautiful painted long-tail, with your haunting cry. Rising above the pounding waves. Rounded body, colour-divided. We “brave” ones watch from shore,. Wrestling with wind gusts, ice pellets. Tearing at us,. While you play in the storm,. Swimming under the waves to rise and laugh,. We should have known winter was still here. Since you were too. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

With nothing to help him to the surface but a life jacket, water pressure demands that the exercise be done correctly or his lungs could explode! Ted was amazed. Out of the blue, he and Alert.
