The Fork and Brush: April 2013
http://forkandbrush.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html
Culinary side-quests and domestic diversions. Wednesday, April 24, 2013. Red Lentil Spread for Toast. It's been a busy ten days since my last post. I spent all of last weekend working an Artist Alley table at a comics convention. Started and completed a rush painting that had to be shipped overnight to Los Angeles this morning, filmed half of a new painting tutorial video, and worked on lots of other jobs and tasks. Sadly, food and sleep are the first two things that suffer when work gets crazy. In the p...

Culinary side-quests and domestic diversions. Wednesday, January 15, 2014. 2013 Holidays and Life Changes. Of days in 2013. Now, a year later, I just turned 30 and I'm packing to move into an apartment of my own. Even though this has been a very hard change so far, I'm trying to stay positive, and looking forward filling the new living space with good vibes and things that make me happy. Cookies rolled out, cut, and baked. I made the gingerbread cookies using the Eileen's Spicy Gingerbread Men. Recipe...

The Fork and Brush: Meditation and Grilled Cheese
http://forkandbrush.blogspot.com/2014/02/meditation-and-grilled-cheese.html
Culinary side-quests and domestic diversions. Wednesday, February 5, 2014. Meditation and Grilled Cheese. Looking at those pictures, I was inspired to drive to the grocery store immediately, with 50% visibility while it was raining tiny ice pellets, because I felt I needed to make a grilled cheese as soon as possible. Darn it, Buzzfeed, look what you made me do. Anyway, here's the story of my grilled cheese. It's sort of a combination of #12. Cyn's 'No More Tears' Grilled Cheese with Avocados and Peppers.

The Fork and Brush: March 2014
http://forkandbrush.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html
Culinary side-quests and domestic diversions. Friday, March 14, 2014. This was actually my first time ever making a cherry pie. I've made a few apple pies, cobblers, dozens of cheesecakes, some fruit tarts, pecan pies, even a french toast pie. but for some reason never cherry. So I looked at a couple recipes online to get the jist of it. 99% of the time I use an all-butter pastry dough like this one. Approx. 2 1/2 lbs. cherries (w/o stems or pits). 1 1/2 cups turbinado sugar. 4-6 tbsp corn starch. By day...

The Fork and Brush: Twisted Portabella Burgers pt. 1: The Roll
http://forkandbrush.blogspot.com/2013/02/twisted-portabella-burgers-pt-1-roll.html
Culinary side-quests and domestic diversions. Thursday, February 14, 2013. Twisted Portabella Burgers pt. 1: The Roll. You know how there are always a disparate number of burger patties to buns at the store? It occurred to me last night that I had two tasty portabella caps left over, and they'd make great burgers— but if I got storebought buns I'd have far too many. So I decided to make my own buns. Why had this never occurred to me before? Also, why aren't pants made from towels? 1 tsp active dry yeast.

The Fork and Brush: Valentine's Day Cookies
http://forkandbrush.blogspot.com/2014/02/valentines-day-cookies.html
Culinary side-quests and domestic diversions. Saturday, February 8, 2014. Today I broke in the new oven for the first time, and I think we're going to be great friends. I used the same sugar cookie recipe that I used for my last batch. From over the holidays, with one change: I used an extra tsp of baking soda to make them fluffier and soft, and it worked exactly as I hoped. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). The Fork and Brush: May 2013
http://forkandbrush.blogspot.com/2013_05_01_archive.html
Culinary side-quests and domestic diversions. Friday, May 31, 2013. Busted A/C. and Brownies. Well, it looks like our 40-year-old HVAC unit made by Chrysler (no kidding) has finally bitten the dust for good. No amount of duct tape and pool noodles can make it last another season. Rats. Pleased that we're getting a new heating and air system installed by Monday. Phew! I set out to make better brownies. I came up with my own recipe and it was pretty good, but not perfect. I took copious notes all o...I ori...
