England to Holland By Bike (and a Ferry). June 24, 2015. Europe Bike Tour 2015. Traveling by bicycle is a surefire way to create delicious highs, but also generate lows that drag along like a heavy anvil. And just as night needs the sun to tip its rays over the horizon line every morning, bliss shines brightest after hard work and challenge. I’M ON A BOAT! We emerged from the ship for European Union passport control by amiable Dutch border guards. How many days will you be here? I sure hope so! The next ...

Homestead Happenings: PESKY PROBLEMS
http://mwhomestead.blogspot.com/2015/07/pesky-problems.html
Thursday, July 9, 2015. Morning picture to the northwest from behind the house, July 7. Recently we’ve had some pesky problems to work through. First, the refrigerator debacle just doesn’t get better. Sears is giving us a royal run-around, wasting hours of our time – and theirs. One day we think the situation is resolved, the next we’re back to square one. A few brief showers - then more heat (July 7). My first zucchini of the season! I picked the last of the cherries today (3 cups this year), and just a...

Homestead Happenings: March 2015
http://mwhomestead.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Friday, March 27, 2015. A DAY IN EARLY SPRING. Mike and I spent the afternoon at the homestead yesterday (Thursday, March 26). It was a lovely day – 65 degrees with interesting cloud formations. Mike had a list of tasks to accomplish. He installed new innards in the “toilet” tank. Then he moved outside to dig out a channel for the run-off in the ditch parallel to the lane. The next job took the longest - spraying an herbicide on the lane. (He wishes it were more effective.). Nellie is slow now but enjoye...

Homestead Happenings: May 2015
http://mwhomestead.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
Sunday, May 31, 2015. Mike on mower, 2008. In the previous post, comments developed along the theme of mowing the lawn. “Uncle” Dan is enjoying his new John Deere 300 riding mower with 48-inch deck, while Mike recently bought an old Yard Machine with 46-inch deck. Meanwhile, Hallie commented that they use “old technology” - the whirring push mower. I don’t know how they mowed the lawn at the farm in the old days. Maybe Chuck can enlighten us. KW. Thursday, May 28, 2015. Mike and I left the farm Wednesday...

It’s Great To Be Back! After 26 years of designing quilt projects and fabrics for the quilt industry, I closed the Thimbleberries Design Studio and retired. The intent was to slow down and enjoy my life at a more leisurely pace. Well, that lasted for just a while. I then seemed to gradually creep back into the quilting world. Homestead Happenings: Cruising the Canadian Prairies and Back
http://mwhomestead.blogspot.com/2015/07/cruising-canadian-prairies-and-back.html
Thursday, July 2, 2015. Cruising the Canadian Prairies and Back. A year ago I made a swing into Canada and back down into Montana to log the final cache of the Montana State Counties Challenge. As it turned out the Canada portion of the trip was very stressful. The stator (generator) on my motorcycle went out and I was stranded in Fernie, B.C., for about three days while trying to get a part from the states up to a dealer in Fernie who was trying to get me back on the road. I left early Saturday, June 20.

Homestead Happenings: HAZY DAZE OF SUMMER
http://mwhomestead.blogspot.com/2015/07/hazy-daze-of-summer.html
Wednesday, July 22, 2015. HAZY DAZE OF SUMMER. Morning light over Central Ridge (today). We had several brief rain showers in the early morning - not even enough to settle the dust or clear the air of smoke, but the vegetation appreciated it anyway. Since it’s cooler, it will be a good day to bake zucchini bread. Monday I noticed a controlled burn on the other side of Little Canyon and ventured down to the pond to take pictures. We’ll undoubtedly see many such fires into the fall. She doesn't see us.
