Misadventures In Japan

Saying Goodbye is the Hardest Part. I have only studied Japanese for 10 months, which in the grand scheme of things, amounts to little. But, I still went to Japan, because I knew that I might never get another chance. I want to thank the University of Arkansas, the Walton College of Business, and the Edwards for providing me with a scholarship that ultimately changed my life. Here is to the cherished friends we have, and the ones we have to leave behind. Thank you for reading,. More Fun with Yamakasa!

The Field (and the Pitch) of Dreams « Misadventures In Japan

https://misadventuresinjapan.wordpress.com/2015/07/23/the-field-and-the-pitch-of-dreams

The Field (and the Pitch) of Dreams. Sporting events may be big money in America, but for the most part, they seem to be mostly a sit down affair. In Japan, standing, singing, and shouting in support for your favorite team is not only encouraged, but practically mandatory. For the 7th inning stretch, for some reason we all blew up ballooned and danced to a song only the Japanese among us knew. This entry was posted in Uncategorized. More Fun with Yamakasa! Starting at the Beginning. The rooms are very spacious, but I might show you pictures later. The real fun is after we settled down. The same night the students took us to an いざかや (izakaya) which is basically a Japanese bar or pub. This is where all of the students and salarymen drink after they have finished their day. The atmosphere at these places is incredible. Our classes don’t begin until Thursday, so I still have one more free day to explore. Until then, thanks for reading! Culture Clash →.

More Fun with Yamakasa! In a previous post, I outlined the basics of the Yamakasa festival and showed you some of the ceremonial Yamakasa that dot the city of Hakata. Well, after seeing one of the practice time trials, I can confidently say there is no similar festival in all of Japan. While I regret that the festival has ended, I am looking forward to my next adventures in Japan (especially the onsen, which is a traditional Japanese hot spring). Planes, Trains, and Automobiles (Pre-Departure Planning). Right now, I am on the last week of my five-week Intensive Japanese summer class, which means I am almost ready to depart! Finally, East meets West, hopefully I can emerge with a newfound appreciation of Japan (and a couple of souvenirs too). This entry was posted in Uncategorized. Starting at the Beginning →. HogsAbroad Student Blogger Spotlight: Saying Goodbye is the Hardest Part. Our #HogsAbroad student blogger, Kendell, said farewell to his Intensive Japanese summer program:. In Japanese, さよなら (sayonara) does mean goodbye, but it implies that you will either never see them again, or it will be years before you will next meet. I didn’t say さよなら to my friends, because I know I will return. Here is to the cherished friends we have, and the ones we have to leave behind. Thank you for reading,. I'm Newi in Town.

Misadventures In Good Intentions. Monday, August 22, 2011. I think I have loved well in those rare instances when the door was opened to me. I believe I can love well. For the most part, I've felt I've been doing my best navigating this world where I don't seem to fit anywhere. Maybe I've been wrong. But we just continue to do our best. Monday, May 23, 2011. Misadventures in Homeschooling

Hits and misses of a first year homeschooling a Kindergartener with a havoc-wreaking toddler. Tuesday, November 8, 2011. All in a Day's Work. I know you've been hankering for a toddler antics story. Well, here you are:. All these events happened while Silas and I were playing ONE round of the game, Zingo (right next to the kitchen where all the dirty work occurred, mind you):. Judah got a hold of my empty mug, ripped open and spilled the contents of two teabags. Spilled baby food all over the floor.

Misadventures in knitting

I can get my knitting to work. . . eventually. Tuesday, December 14, 2010. Another pair of single cable socks, aka prada socks. Here are my Knitting notes. Cast on 64 stitches using the Twisted German Cast On (which is officially my new favorite cast on) with 2.75mm needles. Work in 4x4 rib for 30 rounds (I knit the top extra long so it could fold over, but didn't use a purl row, so they could be worn flat too, I like having the option of options). Heel flap, turned heel, gusset. Repeat for sock two.
