Just Gettin Through The Day. February 24, 2012. Hey buddy on bus next to me. Go on, smell worse, I dare ya. February 14, 2012. Ok starting the blog with a cuss for a title may be a bit too much, even for me, but Jesus effin Christ it has been a hard few weeks. Midway through my subspecialty year now, and I have been burning the candle at both ends. I am tired frustrated and filled with self pity. Not the most confidence boosting combo I know. Just Gettin Through The Day. Still hard to be me. I have been doing something stupid lately. Granted i though it was a good idea. But alas, it was fucking stupid with a capital F. So i am back on Effexor and i feel wonderful again. WTF. I hate this drug. i don’t want to be on it anymore but i am unable to function without it. This makes me think i am broken and useless. however thanks to Effexor I now don’t care that i feel this way. double edge sword. But what do i know. i am an idiot. Have a super day!

I was an intern, and one of our patients was under comfort care measures only, and was due to expire sometime that night. I was on the floor to sign some orders, and one of the nurses grabbed me. "You need to pronounce Mr. S in 422.". I had no idea how to pronounce someone dead. Was there a procedure? Did I need to do an exam? How sure did I have to be? Oh fuck, I forgot the magnet!

Not all of my patients are the nicest people. However, it's also disappointing to know that a lot of folks I see are labeled as difficult because they want to be involved in their own care. That smug feeling of self-satisfaction and superiority, it is comforting in the moment, but it does not give the patient a better outcome. It doesn't lower A1c.
