As with deja-vous or a sneeze, you kill it by calling its name. I told my coworker, a college student who shares her secrets with me,. I am having a panic attack just now. She listened so generously and intently, my voice happy and calm, smiling through my terror, how surreal it must have sounded. Did I need any help? Oh, my ...

November 03, 2005. Please, you don't have it in you to more than scratch the surface. Anything you care to dish out will be returned with the most tooth aching sugary sweetness, see if it isn't. Bring it, your misery vs my hard won exuberance, we’ll see who breaks first. The two managers on duty commenced discussing the woman as soon as she left. (Within earshot of the other customers, who now know the employees occasionally engage in mean spirited gossip about one of their number.). Meanwhile a two time...

Laquo; Tuesday, April 12. Talk radio ». December 06, 2005. A voicemail was waiting for me when I got off work: My father-in law is hospitalized with pneumonia. Last night, my husband told me his dad started drinking again a month ago. As long as I'm drinking whisky I'm fine. It's beer that gets me in trouble. I'm staying the hell away from beer, don't you worry. Whisky, though, whisky's no problem. December 06, 2005 in Actual Real Things Actually Happening Now! And only now I come to read this. If you ne...

Laquo; talk radio. December 15, 2005. For a long time, I've been age inappropriately conscientious of optimizing my health. Who reads Prevention Magazine when they are twelve? All of this does make a little bit of sense when you consider my mother is ill with a chronic immunodeficiency disorder which varies widely in how well it responds to conventional medicine. Excersizing regularly and eating well are central strategies for managing her health. Living with not dying: it's a possibility, but not an unm...

Laquo; In Which I Incur the Wrath of Everyone on a Diet. Oh, hey, speaking of religion. ». August 16, 2005. Did you ever go through a religious phase? Yeah, I was way into God for a few years there. It funny I havn’t gotten around to telling you. Weird I had no idea. How old were you? You read the whole Bible? Well, most of it, I think. Not Revelations. Dude, that’s the best part. Pretty cool, I guess, but aren’t Brethrens really fire and brimstone? Did someone tell you you were going to hell? Exactly...

http://mercuryfern.typepad.com/mercuryfern/2005/10/its_the_most_wo.html
Tune Up ». October 22, 2005. It's the most wonderful time of the year. Monday is the last day of sukkot. Our household of two secular Jews and one goy has been shokling it up all week. This is the second time my gracious hosts are celebrating the Feast of Tabernacles, and I concur with them that it is the best holiday the world has ever seen. I miss church quite a bit, though as I have explained elsewhere. Except that their rituals do nothing for me. The few Catholic services I’ve attended have all reson...
