Wednesday, January 19, 2011. I don't know much about storks so I can't say exactly why they are called a חסידה. I do know though that storks are not really birds of pray. Non-kosher animals are birds of pray so maybe because it is not a bird of pray it is called a חסידה. Now why are they non-kosher. I think it is because a stork is "righteous" and why should we kill/eat a righteous animal. Ps: Isn't it a big coincidence that the "kind" stork brings babies to the door!
