Catching Up Nov./Dec. December 31, 2014. Winter arrived early, like a lion, with a huge snowstorm on Nov. 11th, dropping 23″ of snow on the 3″ or so base we had. 23″ of new snow. Keeping the roof raked. We must have raked the snow off the roof at least three times during the storm. Thank goodness a neighbor loaned us a snowblower for the winter! Wet, uncut wood, now covered in snow. Pioneer Maid woodburning kitchen range. Badger, a Husky, joined us in early December. Dec 11, FROST in the morning sun!

Wild Instincts is a WI wildlife rehabilitation facility located a few miles outside of Rhinelander, WI, owned and operated by Mark Naniot and Sharon Larson, along with varying numbers of interns and volunteers. Not Quite Spring Yet. March 23, 2015. Getting close to spring. I love the four seasons, and after my 23rd winter her in the WI Northwoods, I am looking forward to the arrival of spring. The birch trees are wonderful against the blue sky but I don’t see leaf buds yet, on the birches, they are often the last of the trees to leaf out. Snow melt in the garden. I’ve lived in the Wisconsin Northwoods for 21 years, seventeen of them in this rustic log home on a small lake in a wooded area. There is a woodburning range in my kitchen, and that means keeping a supply of dry wood cut, split, and stacked, and hauling it into the house all from mid-autumn through mid-spring. There is nothing as cozy and warm as wood heat! There is always yard work, a bit of gardening, cooking and baking, and on-going maintenance on my home. Home, Summer 2013. Hinge(s) on garage door.
