http://teethbeforewords.blogspot.com/2008_12_01_archive.html
Poems for trapped things. Wednesday, December 17, 2008. Three more days . First week of term, on the other hand, is a glorious 5 weeks away right now. Five weeks introduced by two weeks of Christmas hols with the library and universities CLOSED. I may accidentally lock my office keys in my office. I'm kinda looking forward to Christmas this year. Albeit, it won't be the same so far away. But this year, we've made our own tree out of paper and stuck it to the wall (space saving! I'm feeling very blah toda...

teeth before words: eating success
http://teethbeforewords.blogspot.com/2009/08/eating-success.html
Poems for trapped things. Thursday, August 27, 2009. I am a mostly employed academic. And I've quit my solid, rent-paying, dependable library job to venture forth on this academic gig. Which is scary. I'm only sure of employment until next July. Then - into the deep: summer: the long dull winter of the part-time lecturer's soul in which paycheques dry up and stress levels skyrocket. But why anticipate such times? So I'm having a celebratory dinner tonight, which I'm cooking - along with Allegra McEvedy.

Poems for trapped things. Friday, October 10, 2008. Things that make my day. THEN I got to pat the police horses as they stood majesterial guard outside the Uni. Max is beautiful and his person very cheery - the kind of police officer straight out of a children's book - I wonder if the horses make community work easier (for people unafraid of horses! Monday, October 06, 2008. When did that happen? As Nas commented this morning on our way to campus - 'I'm a doctor! And I saw a fox! We also saw Die Welle.

Poems for trapped things. Thursday, August 28, 2008. Thinking in a box. I am, unsurprisingly, bored at work again. So I've looked around the interwebs universe and found a site apparently dedicated entirely to 'top 10' lists. I'm intrigued and just bored enough to find thinking in list-form a pleasant distraction. 10 things I'd like to grow in my garden next year. 6 crown prince pumpkins. 10 things I would like to eat right now. 1 blueberry pancakes with maple syrup. 4 home-made chocolate chip cooky.

teeth before words: open day
http://teethbeforewords.blogspot.com/2009/09/open-day.html
Poems for trapped things. Thursday, September 10, 2009. Open Day on campus today - these happen every year at the same time and every year I forget about them until I get to campus where the quiet serenity of the summer is shattered prematurely by A-level students and their parents strolling confusedly around, clutching maps and the university prospectus. Luckily, I snagged a table outside in the blazing sunshine at my coffee spot and so wasn't embittered by having to sit on the steps. Blue Goo Ate My Mom.

Poems for trapped things. Thursday, January 29, 2009. My amazing husband is running the Paris marathon. This year - in April, which is just two months away. teeth before words: June 2009
http://teethbeforewords.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html
Poems for trapped things. Tuesday, June 02, 2009. The Berlin Wall came down in 1989; I played tennis; Tiananmen Square and my birthday nearly coincided - I was 12; Khomeini announced the. On Salman Rushdie; I worried about going to high school; I saw. Can we historicize something without losing its singularity - without rendering it an event like other events? Does the process of remembering at a cultural or social level mean the negation of individual stories? Monday, June 01, 2009. We have a new LYS (L...

teeth before words: The beetroot diaries
http://teethbeforewords.blogspot.com/2009/09/beetroot-diaries.html
Poems for trapped things. Wednesday, September 16, 2009. So good. and it freezes. I'm not one for chutneys, otherwise I'd have it made as I understand you can 'chutney' pretty much all things. I didn't make the sauce that Gennaro Contaldo recommends - out of oranges). I also had a culinary epiphany: gnocchi are essentially my gran's potato noodles. Funnily enough, I would never think of asking gran to put beetroot or pumpkin in her dish, but 'beetroot gnocchi' had me hooked before I read the recipe.

Poems for trapped things. Saturday, July 11, 2009. Sushi last night from a place I found while trawling around the website for the Leeds Food Festival (which I missed completely) - Sesame. It was eaten with gusto while anticipating the final installment in the five-part, third series of Torchwood. Turn away in shame? Does the Doctor or whatever substitute for centralised moral authority is being touted have to 'turn away' for us? When do you stop the 'turning away' bit and get back to it? Result: I'm lef...
