http://www.ontherodeagain.com/2011_09_01_archive.html
On The Rode Again. So Many Bikes, So Little Time. Monday, September 26, 2011. Open Road was the store brand for Montgomery Ward back in the days when many stores sold bikes under their own brand name. A search of the web finds a dearth of information so there is little history available for this bike. Head Badge on Open Road Mixte. Made in Korea" at bottom of seat tube. Stamping on Bottom Bracket. The pictures above show all the identifying marks I could find. Does anyone have any clues? The brakes were ...

On The Rode Again. So Many Bikes, So Little Time. Wednesday, August 31, 2011. I've been riding a lot this summer and am currently working on a second century in mid September, but I have also been working on project bikes along the way. One is this 1989 Schwinn Caliente that I came across. The 1989 Schwinn Caliente was their entry level road bike for that year. It's a basic 10 speed with all entry level components. Factory Specs on the 1989 Caliente. On the rack, ready to be disassembled. Thanks to the g...

On The Rode Again. So Many Bikes, So Little Time. Thursday, July 28, 2011. Ride, Ride, Ride. I've been remiss in keeping this blog updated. I really haven't been spending any time working on bikes because the weather has been so hot and the garage/shop is like an oven. Here are some pictures from the day of the event:. Posing for the camera. On our steeds, ready to go. Drew, giving the Bianchi a last check. Clipping in for start. Break away" on Devil's Hole Road. There were over 1000 participants. So Sim...

On The Rode Again. So Many Bikes, So Little Time. Friday, November 11, 2011. Shimano Positron Indexed Shifting. In my last post I promised some information on the Shimano Positron Indexed Shifting System that came with my recently refurbished Open Road Mixte. This is purportedly Shimano's first attempt at indexed shifting and was developed in several iterations, all of which operated in a similar fashion. The Open Road Mixte came with the Positron FH rear derailleur as pictured below: (click to enlarge).

On The Rode Again. So Many Bikes, So Little Time. Thursday, March 31, 2011. 1985 Schwinn Traveler Maxed Out. Part of my personal philosophy is that we're all here to make the world a better place when we leave it than it was when we entered it, and it's up to us to decide how we fulfill that obligation. One of the great things about the human condition is that there are an endless variety of ways we can express ourselves and leave our mark. Still, it was a great find and was exactly what I was looking fo...

The Singletrack Life: June 2009
http://thesingletracklife.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html
Wherein I attempt to limit myself to discussion of cycling and fail miserably. Sunday, June 7, 2009. Due to rain the last couple days, riding has been confined to the city limits. Not the best or most interesting riding, but there are lots of new trails that I haven't seen and others that I haven't ridden for a long time, so it wasn't all bad. Saturday dawned early with the Havelock Charity run (no I didn't run). A decision point at Holmes Lake. Is this Colorado, or southeast Lincoln? S a map of the route.

On The Rode Again: Bianchi Premio Redux
http://www.ontherodeagain.com/2012/07/bianchi-premio-redux.html
On The Rode Again. So Many Bikes, So Little Time. Thursday, July 5, 2012. Over the winter while I was recovering from my Thanksgiving Day spill, I started collecting parts to redo Drew's Bianchi Premio. To be sure, it was already a very nice bike but I wanted to update it to STI levers and make some changes to create an even better bike. Then I added new tires/tubes, pedals, cables and housing, chain, bottom bracket, cable stops to replace the downtube shifters, and an 8 speed cassette. I guess I shou...

On The Rode Again: 1979 Fuji S12-S
http://www.ontherodeagain.com/2011/11/1979-fuji-s12-s.html
On The Rode Again. So Many Bikes, So Little Time. Monday, November 21, 2011. A while back I received a frame and some components for a 1979 Fuji S12-S road bike. It sat in the back of the garage for quite a while because I wasn't sure what to do with it. With some time and effort I probably could have brought it back to close to original specs but wasn't sure if I wanted to do that or not. Fuji S12-S as I received it. Classic Fuji Head Badge. The head set wasn't much better. No caged bearings here. The w...
