Incepto ne Desistam: Laughter
http://inceptonedesistam.blogspot.com/2015/04/laughter.html
Tuesday, April 21, 2015. A Basque priest arrived at St. John's Cathedral this year. He heard on the radio in his native area that there were no remaining Basque priests serving the Catholic people of the Northwest. What did he do in response? He moved to Boise. He is a true missionary. Today, Fr. Antonio heard my confession, and he reminded me of an important lesson. My sin was related to pride and taking too personally and seriously the reputation I have with others. His counsel? My brothers Luke and Mi...

Incepto ne Desistam: November 2014
http://inceptonedesistam.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
Tuesday, November 4, 2014. I spent many vacations on the Oregon Coast growing up. Cannon Beach and Lincoln City were the favored Miller destinations. While the Oregon water is chilly for swimming, the soothing waves, green cliffsides, and sandy coastlines make for a rejuvenating place to spend a long weekend or spring break. I looked at the statements, heard some conversation from friends, and recalled what I knew of Catholic teaching on the family. I thought of the ocean. Is either side right? I’m...

Incepto ne Desistam: October 2014
http://inceptonedesistam.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
Tuesday, October 21, 2014. I loved Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as a kid. I still love them. My brother bought me a TMNT T-shirt a couple years ago that draws complements whenever I wear it. I even spent an afternoon last year picking through the entire list of action figures from my era of Turtles. And yes, I owned quite a few of them. Monday, October 13, 2014. What have I been doing? I fleetingly thought many times in August, September, and then October that I should set a goal of posting once a week&#...

Incepto ne Desistam: Easter
http://inceptonedesistam.blogspot.com/2015/04/easter.html
Sunday, April 5, 2015. No one is here. The sky is dark. The burial cloths gone. The rock is moved. The tomb is opened. No one is here. The Lord is alive. The Lord is alive? The Lord is alive! Death has no sting! Where is the Lord? Where is he now? He walks among us. His wounds to show. Resurrected, triumphant, conquering, loving. He walks among us, for us to know. To know the curtain is shattered. The Holy of Holies incarnate, made man. To know God dwells among us. Our sins forgiven, our scars made clean.

Incepto ne Desistam: February 2015
http://inceptonedesistam.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Saturday, February 28, 2015. Our commitment and fraternity forced us to grow. I never looked forward to the alarm on Tuesdays, but I knew it was for my spiritual good. Small groups effect change in us, in our habits and lives. We need the encouragement, the support, the challenge, the commiseration, the celebration. Do you have a group? Friday, February 27, 2015. I'm going to cheat slightly by posting a video today, but it's worth watching as part of our Lenten journey. Thursday, February 26, 2015. Only ...

Incepto ne Desistam: May 2015
http://inceptonedesistam.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
Monday, May 25, 2015. For the third or fourth time I am trying to slog through The God Delusion. By Richard Dawkins. I don't enjoy it. His arguments go against what I most deeply believe. I get irritated by his snippiness and arrogance. I get sleepy from boredom. Why, then, am I reading it? He cites the historical and literal inaccuracies from Scripture, particularly surrounding the life of Jesus, even going so far as to say Jesus may not have existed as an historical person. He cites religion as the.

Incepto ne Desistam: July 2014
http://inceptonedesistam.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
Monday, July 14, 2014. Job hunting can be tricky. Since May I have been sending resumes and cover letters to many parishes in Washington and Idaho seeking the ideal place to spend a year of discernment and ministry. Where is there a need, a calling, and a situation that fits for me and for God's people? What work would be beneficial for an interim period? This morning I made a choice. I am going to be the Youth Minister at Our Lady of the Valley. I expect that life will be busier very soon. Since the...

http://inceptonedesistam.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html
Thursday, May 15, 2014. My prolonged silence on this blog is for good reason. The past weeks I have engaged intensely in discernment and come to a decision for this point in my vocational journey. I am taking a year off from the formation program for the priesthood. This year offers me hope that I can discover increased clarity and purpose in how I am called to serve God's people. How did I arrive at this point? Will you pray for me? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Mount Angel Seminary Journalism. 4 Essentia...

Incepto ne Desistam: Feet
http://inceptonedesistam.blogspot.com/2015/04/feet.html
Thursday, April 2, 2015. I volunteered today at the Corpus Christi House in Boise at a foot washing clinic. I was not the washer (that was left to podiatrists and nurses). My friend Frankie and I prepared tubs for foot soaking and removed them after use. Over 50 people- almost all of whom were homeless or living in poverty- received treatment ranging from cleaning, clipping, filing, and massaging. Each person seemed genuinely grateful. Tonight he washes our feet. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Image...
