Bouldering, skiing, and adventuring in the Adirondack mountains. Nine Corners, 9/14. September 17, 2013. First thing: Pop or Drop! It’s the most classic line of its grade at Nine Corners. It’s also only a V4, but one that’s never quite worked for me, so I’ve been projecting it off and on since 2004 (nine years! Nine Corners attracted a big crowd and plenty of crash pads on Saturday, so I thought I’d rehearse the opening moves a few times to warm up, in the hope of. Definitely a top-ten climbing day!

Bouldering, skiing, and adventuring in the Adirondack mountains. August 15, 2013. Due to a combination of busy-ness, laziness, and record-breaking summer heat, this blog hasn’t seen much action lately. We’ve been taking it easy in our spare time: running, slacklining, and drinking a few too many beers. But life is slowing down, the weather is cooling off, and I’m the proud new owner of an indoor bouldering wall (thanks to Brian. Expect some climbing-related goodness soon. Green Lake Sessions | Negative Ape
http://www.wasielewski.org/2013/09/green-lake-sessions
Bouldering, skiing, and adventuring in the Adirondack mountains. September 13, 2013. Our tiny crew made a couple of trips to the Green Lake Boulders. In Caroga Lake last week. Andy and I put in a short night session Thursday after work, then we returned with Heather on Sunday morning. Green Lake only has a handful of problems and a 3-minute approach, so it’s perfect for the preseason, when fitness and conditions are lacking. Heather made us proud by aggressively projecting and sending High Chair. At firs...

Bouldering, skiing, and adventuring in the Adirondack mountains. The human nature of climbing. October 25, 2013. From one of my favorite climbing blogs, an exploration of the naming and identification of rock climbs:. Who would have the guts to create a new climbing area without names? What’s this route called? A visitor might ask. Well, it’s the third one from the left, the local would reply. How hard is it? The visitor would counter. It’s as hard as it is. Why don’t you give it a try? At least in theory.

Bouldering, skiing, and adventuring in the Adirondack mountains. Green Lake Boulders, 9/15. October 2, 2013. The Green Lake boulders have been an attractive destination lately their short approach and limited climbing is perfect for half-day trips. So we headed out there again, this time with our good friend Jesse along for the fun. As usual, the highlights:. Jesse sent High Chair and just barely fell short of sending The Fugitive. I repeated The Fugitive and climbed the beginning of Live Free or Die.

Bouldering, skiing, and adventuring in the Adirondack mountains. McKenzie Pond, 9/26. October 7, 2013. I’m a bit backlogged with trip reports, so this one will be short. Heather and I took a few days off from work for a brief Lake Placid mini-vacation, and hit up the McKenzie Pond boulders for a few hours. Andy drove up from Utica to join us. Heather had been begging to go to McKenzie for months, and didn’t waste this opportunity. She:. Blazed through Makaia’s Problem. Normally difficult for her. Zac wri...

Bouldering, skiing, and adventuring in the Adirondack mountains. Coming back to life. October 27, 2014. No, this site isn’t dead it just needed some rest. This year has been a string of injuries, poor health, a busy schedule, and infrequent climbing, which left me very little motivation to write. My physical issues started just over a year ago, after I injured my biceps tendon on the crux of Even Stevia. On October 4th, 2014, Heather and I got married! Bouldering, skiing, and adventuring in the Adirondack mountains. Jay Mountain, 9/27. November 5, 2013. Heather climbs one of Jay’s false summits. Bouldering at McKenzie Pond had wiped us out the previous day, so Heather and I took it easy with a hike up Jay Mountain. Jay sits about 25 minutes northeast of Lake Placid, in one of the more remote corners of the Park, so it sees less traffic than many of the High Peaks. You are reading Negative Ape.
