T1 diabetes, my family, books and publishing, design lust, Brooklyn, food, nesting, and a million other things. Monday, August 6, 2012. I freely admit that I'm not one of those people who diligently checks for ketones. Frankly, I've never had a problem with them when I didn't have a wicked high blood sugar and I've never been made horribly ill by them, so my treatment is basically bolusing corrections, chugging water, and monitoring my BG through CGM and fingersticks. The giant blank spots? Been diabetic...

Ellie is 5, “not worth it” has no meaning to her…it’s the equivalent of me just saying no basically. She ponders my answer for a moment and tells me that she would like to try it out anyway. Ugh! I thought, with my eyes in the back of my head searching the grey matter (cue : Reyna of course! First, I live in Kansas. ...

They’re Alive « Typical Type 1

Is there anything new to say about living with Type 1 diabetes? Maybe not, but I'll try anyway. By Jacquie Paul Wojcik. After twenty years of living with diabetes, it’s not often that I experience new “firsts” related to the disease. I’ve long since suffered my first pump frazzle, screwed-up infusion set, incapacitating low, head-exploding high. I even had my first glucagon adventure. Just a few months ago. But life with diabetes is always full of surprises, right? This entry was posted in Uncategorized.

Cue end of conversation, looking at Dexcom and saying, well maybe I should verify these readings. This was number one. Obviously not panicking I chose to test again. That’s where this bad boy came from. Fill in your det...
