Sallie Atkins: January 2009
http://sallieatkins.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html
Thursday, January 29, 2009. Everything is finished except that I need to redirect the overhead can lights, some of which have color corrected bulbs. I even have space to step back from my easel. That's a basic necessity for me for I simply cannot paint sitting down. And notice that empty shelf space. Ta da! Each week's blog brings several responses. After reading last week's blog, my friend, Ken Crouch, who lives in Arizona and Ohio, wryly observed, "With such close access to Carl's wine supply who k...

Sallie Atkins: October 2011
http://sallieatkins.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html
Sunday, October 23, 2011. I've already mentioned the recent workshop I took from Marc Hanson. One of the things I admire about Marc is that he loves the dark as much as I do. He actually spent a month doing two small paintings each night in the dark. Marc also has the artistic capability to create night time paintings from daytime scenes, something I was determined to learn while he was here. Sunday, October 9, 2011. Why Take A Workshop? Of course not. I can see things that I will change if I ever pa...

Sallie Atkins: December 2008
http://sallieatkins.blogspot.com/2008_12_01_archive.html
Tuesday, December 23, 2008. I'm not sure how an excess of cookies and candies became associated with Christmas unless it's the fact that mothers and grandmothers everywhere decided to make special treats for this special occasion and the tradition just grew. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all my friends and family. I wish you the kinds of memories that help make this time of year so very special. Monday, December 15, 2008. Christmas in the City? The Nightmare Before Christmas Village? But my favor...

Sallie Atkins: May 2009

Saturday, May 16, 2009. A Family Treasure Comes Home. My dad was a wood carver. Actually, he would say he was a whittler but he had progressed way beyond that. As happens with many prolific artists, their work has a way of flying out the door until, suddenly, when it's too late, the family realizes there isn't enough left to go around. But that's not the end of the story. He asked. "Yes, I did," she replied. "He was my father-in-law and this is his son.". Saturday, May 9, 2009. Mothers come in all shapes...

Sallie Atkins: August 2009

Sunday, August 23, 2009. Friends Are Found In The Darndest Places. The Internet makes possible some amazing connections that would never have otherwise happened. My grandparents' generation would never, in their wildest dreams, have imagined such a thing. I've written before about some of the surprises I got after setting up this blog. I'm going to share another Internet story with you today. Now Christa has set up her own blog. It's a great peek at every day life in Poland. Her comments on commu...It's ...

Sallie Atkins: March 2010
http://sallieatkins.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html
Tuesday, March 30, 2010. Sometimes I really do wonder how the male mind works. Out of the blue a few days ago, my darling husband asked me if crossword puzzles are getting easier. "Not that I've noticed," I replied. He brought it up again the next morning so I asked why he was suddenly interested in the difficulty of crossword puzzles. Carl: "Because I've noticed that you can work practically any crossword puzzle you pick up.". OPEN MOUTH; INSERT FOOT! Sunday, March 21, 2010. Have A Nice Day. And I do me...

Sallie Atkins: July 2010
http://sallieatkins.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html
Monday, July 19, 2010. For Want Of A Nail. OUR NEW FLAT SCREEN TV. For want of a nail the shoe was lost. For want of a shoe the horse was lost. For want of a horse the rider was lost. For want of a rider the battle was lost. For want of a battle the kingdom was lost. And all for the want of a horseshoe nail. The Atkins family recently experienced a modern-day example of the above situation. So, on Monday morning, I went to speak with the Best Buy store manager. I explained to him that we have been sa...

Sallie Atkins: Why Take A Workshop?
http://sallieatkins.blogspot.com/2011/10/why-take-workshop.html
Sunday, October 9, 2011. Why Take A Workshop? As someone who has been painting for many years, I sometimes wonder why I continue to take workshops - not that I take that many; usually just one every year or two. But sometimes an artist comes to town whom I greatly admire and I just can't resist. Last summer it was. Leon, West Virginia. The Home Where I Grew Up. Leon, West Virginia. The Tree That Grandpa Planted. Why Take A Workshop? Leon, West Virginia. VISIT SALLIE'S ART PAGE. MEET THE ATKINS BOYS.
