By the 1800s the Castle Garth was a bustling community full of slum housing, cobblers shops, taverns and a large Presbyterian meeting hall. Most of this was demolished to make way for the building of the railways in the 1840s, gradually revealing the medieval remains from under the later buildings. Last entry is at 4.15pm and tickets can be purchased from the Black Gate, the Castle's newly renovated 13th century gatehouse (please note: tickets are no longer available to buy from the Castle Keep). Tickets operate at the following prices and last for the entire day. Senior (60 years and over). Disabled (includes one free carer).
