Empowering Authenticity: Passwords To Meaning-Making
http://empoweringauthenticity.blogspot.com/2014/01/passwords-to-meaning-making.html
A Seeker's Journey in Life and Faith. Wednesday, January 1, 2014. Love, like a carefully loaded ship. Crosses the gulf between the generations…. We live, not by things, but by the passwords. From generation to generation. Antoine de Saint Exupery. As I read the words by de Saint Exupery, I began to think of the words that are "passwords" of my past, of the things that I expect to see in my family home, of the decisions my 7 siblings and I will have to "sort through" in the future, whenever that may be.

Empowering Authenticity: September 2011
http://empoweringauthenticity.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html
A Seeker's Journey in Life and Faith. Tuesday, September 27, 2011. Right Answer vs. Right Response. There are no “answers” to such a horrific experience. On the other hand, there have been both negative responses of fear and anger and ethnic profiling and many positive responses of compassion and reaching out to those in need that have been witnessed and experienced. Plus, this reminds me that it’s about God’s timing, not my own. Martha Beahm, D.Min., Ed.S. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Empowering Authenticity: January 2013
http://empoweringauthenticity.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html
A Seeker's Journey in Life and Faith. Monday, January 28, 2013. Are You Listening to Yourself? As I thought about what I expected, I thought about the lack of responsibility to lead. In my vocation, I am expected to lead much of the time. I also thought about the fact that most of those going were going with an openness to experience, to learn, and to grow. So, I ask you. what gives you energy and what shuts down your energy? 1 Are you aware of what gives you energy and what takes energy out of you?

Empowering Authenticity: Sin Management or Healing?
http://empoweringauthenticity.blogspot.com/2014/09/sin-management-or-healing.html
A Seeker's Journey in Life and Faith. Monday, September 8, 2014. Sin Management or Healing? 8220; When religion is not about healing, it really does not have much to offer people in this life.”. This statement in Rohr’s book Dancing Standing Still: Healing the World From a Place of Prayer. Focusing on sin seeks to define what is “right” and what is “wrong”. Who defines this right and wrong, good and bad, depends on those in power. This is not only in the extremism of Islam...I see this especially as fear...

Empowering Authenticity: Who Will You Be When You Grow Up?
http://empoweringauthenticity.blogspot.com/2013/06/who-will-you-be-when-you-grow-up.html
A Seeker's Journey in Life and Faith. Saturday, June 1, 2013. Who Will You Be When You Grow Up? When I was in first grade I remember I wanted to be a nurse. Not sure why, other then in the 1960s, that was one of the acceptable vocations that I knew was common for a woman to be when they became an adult. When I think about it now, what I intuitively realized then, was that I wanted to serve others. When I was in 5. When I was in 7. Why would someone want to pay to get hit by a wine bottle at a concert?

gumption and tales of secondhand living: secondhand giving?
http://gumptiousliving.blogspot.com/2013/06/secondhand-giving.html
June 27, 2013. I'd like to pick your brain for a second. If you were to receive a gift that was previously owned, and resold at a consignment shop, how would you feel about it? I recently found some things at consignment shops that I think to myself, " would LOVE this". And of course if I know someone well enough, I'd be comfortable giving them a secondhand gift if it's a guarantee they'd like it. What are your thoughts, though? Is giving a secondhand gift a big no-no? June 27, 2013 at 8:18 AM. That said...

gumption and tales of secondhand living: January 2016
http://gumptiousliving.blogspot.com/2016_01_01_archive.html
January 19, 2016. I hope this past Christmas season was a time of joyous celebration and peace with your loved ones. I find it hard to believe it is already the start of another year, a time to reflect on the past and prepare and dream of what may come in this new year. Pura Vida Bracelets were given to a few people this year. It is nice supporting a company that also gives proceeds to various charities. A few of my favorite gifts to give this year were paintings for two of my nieces. Partly because ...

gumption and tales of secondhand living: February 2015
http://gumptiousliving.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
February 3, 2015. In the pending birth of our first child, I am spending my evenings being large and slow on the couch, eating pretty much everything in sight, and cruising through Friends. I thought I'd finally share some photos of the house, namely my favorite room so far, the kitchen. This remodel has been taking place since September, and our dear little kitchen has been reborn in 5 months! I cannot say how thankful I am for my husband who has put countless hours into make this space so amazing!

gumption and tales of secondhand living: an old frame
http://gumptiousliving.blogspot.com/2015/09/an-old-frame.html
September 6, 2015. A few years ago, I posted a review of a sweet secondhand shop in Winston Salem (see it here. This place was one of my favorites! Against a wall in the shop, a gold picture frame that was tucked away, between other frames and artwork, caught my eye. I can't describe exactly what it was that attracted me to it, but because I liked it and felt inspired, I bought it. I haven't touched the frame at all in about two years, except to pack it in a box for two moves (my husband loves that!
