The 28 Maori Battalion was a voluntary rifle unit formed in 1939 for services overseas during World War II; over 3700 men served in the unit. C Company, one of 5 companies in the Battalion, was formed by volunteers from Torere around the East Coast to Muriwai taking in the tribal groupings of:. NGA TAMA TOA: THE PRICE OF CITIZENSHIP. Nga Tama Toa: The Price of Citizenship was launched on October 2008 at Te Poho o Rawiri Marae, Gisborne. It was almost 62 years after Sir Apirana Ngata wrote about his plans for a C Company history and almost seven years after the first chapter was written under the leadership of Dr Monty Soutar. THE C COMPANY GALLERY. A permanent home for the C Company Collection. In September 2008, the C Company exhibition, The Price of Citizenship was de-commissioned by the museum, due to a lack of exhibition space, in September 2008. A team of architects have volunteered their time to create a gallery design that incorporates a state of the art memorial space, multiple exhibition areas and an archival audio visual suite adjacent to the southern side of Tairawhiti Museum in Gisborne. Nga Tamariki is a non-profit, community-based parent-cooperative and provides quality education and care for children aged 3 months to 5 years. They were very friendly and we all loved patting them. We got to see them in action when Howie and Whaea Hinemoa took us out to the field and made them chase after a stick that Howie had thrown.
