ES2007S Professional Communication: Intercultural Communication
http://jaymieblogs.blogspot.com/2008/09/intercultural-communication.html
Wednesday, September 24, 2008. Singapore has an intercultural/inter-racial society, and racial harmony is something she prides herself on. Our social fabric is very delicate, and intercultural conflicts have to be solved with much sensitivity and tact. To communicate effectively, one has to be sensitive towards certain issues, especially those regarding culture and religion. Also, the fact that both parties could not understand each others' accent well was also a cause for the communication breakdown.

ES2007S Professional Communication: Ugly Commuters and Priority Seats
http://neoxueli.blogspot.com/2008/09/ugly-commuters-and-priority-seats.html
Friday, September 5, 2008. Ugly Commuters and Priority Seats. Photo courtesy of stomp.com.sg. The moment the train doors open at the station, all the immaculately-dressed and able-bodied professionals cast all social etiquette aside, jostle their way onto it and snatch up all the available seats. An elderly lady, after bearing several shoves, finally gets onto the train. She hobbles towards the seats and realises that they are all taken up by the young and healthy pretending to be asleep. These priority ...

ES2007S Professional Communication: Resolving Interpersonal Conflict
http://neoxueli.blogspot.com/2008/08/resolving-interpersonal-conflict.html
Friday, August 29, 2008. For this blog post, I put forth a hypothetical interpersonal conflict situation involving a project group setting. I would be using the themes cultural differences, gender issues and emotional intelligence in the scenario to illustrate communication problems amongst us. How should Parry assert himself to ensure that cordial relations are restored within the project group and to complete the project eventually? An apology can thus be squeezed out of the not-so-gentle giant. Wi...

http://neoxueli.blogspot.com/2008/08/effective-communication-skills.html
Saturday, August 23, 2008. As Lee Iacocca, former president and CEO of automobile giants, Chrysler and Ford, aptly puts, "One can have brilliant ideas, but if he cannot get them across, his ideas would not get him anywhere." I cannot agree more. With the proliferation of new communication techniques and the awareness of effective commication methods, teaching methods have evolved from the yesteryears. August 24, 2008 at 5:29 PM. I couldn't agree with you more! With the emergence of new technology and nov...
