Is there a problem with the sponsorship of public sector events? | Nick M Halliday
http://www.nickmhalliday.net/is-there-a-problem-with-the-sponsorship-of-public-sector-events
Is there a problem with the sponsorship of public sector events? April 27, 2015. We ran some user testing of the GovCamp website. Last week. One of the topics that came up was the size and positioning of the sponsors logos. Actually the comments did more reflect on the difficulties we had last year adding the logos to the site rather than any bigger issues. However it did spark a discussion about sponsorship in general some of which have been raised in the past. Are the people planning to attend influenc...
ODUG is dead, long live ODUG (Open Data User Group) | Nick M Halliday

ODUG is dead, long live ODUG (Open Data User Group). July 3, 2015. I heard about the Open Data User Group a couple of years ago and last year was fortunate enough to be chosen (in a transparent manner) to be a member. There were ups and downs plus a huge amount of frustration about the obstruction and obscurantism across the public sector to making data publicly available. There was a lot of ‘really? 8217; ‘they said that? 8217; ‘how long? 8217; ‘in what format? Who can we trust with #opendata in the UK?
Who can we trust with #opendata in the UK? | Nick M Halliday

Who can we trust with #opendata in the UK? June 15, 2015. The opendata landscape is complicated as Simon Briscoe has pointed out in his excellent map. However recently some of the players have disappeared as Giuseppe Solazzo explains. And these are the groups like the Open Data User Group that in some way represented ‘data users/consumers’. Is it really likely that he will benevolently take a wider view across the whole of the open data landscape and drive wider change? So who can we trust? Digital leade...

What happened at the first Public Sector API meetup? May 13, 2015. On 30 April we held our first Public Sector API meetup. At the National Audit Office. We had about twenty people turn up from a wide variety of backgrounds. A few people have asked what happened at the meetup? So I will highlight a few points here though I did miss a fair amount as I was letting people into the building. Feel free to chip in with any more public sector API that you are aware of. Oh and we did go to the pub…. April 17, 2015.
Why do we need a public sector API group? | Nick M Halliday

Why do we need a public sector API group? April 17, 2015. Somewhat rashly last week I decided to create a Public Sector API Meetup Group. Why, I hear you ask? The idea has been strongly influenced by Paul Hallett who set up the #LondonAPI meetup group. Where I have attended, I think, every meeting. They have been great meetings and much credit is due to Paul for lining up some great speakers who have been very willing to share so many excellent tips. Why do we need a public sector group then? I keep expe...

Tag Archives: Met Office. How much does the public sector spend on data? March 20, 2015. I gave a short internal presentation this week about open data. As I was writing a few thoughts came to mind based on chats with data users. One of the intriguing questions is – how does the public sector spend on data? This could be data being bought from other public sector bodies or the private sector. What about private sector data? Thoughts and comments more than welcome. Create, curate, consume. On Who are the ...

Who are the real ‘digital leaders’? December 31, 2015. I see a number of groups these days called ‘digital leaders’ which made me reflect on:. Who/what is a digital leader? How many are there; is there a finite number? What elements constitute this kind of leadership? Some common features of leadership are:. Leading from the front and setting an example. Taking a calculated risk. Being willing to make mistakes, learn and move on. Be different from the crowd. They live these values every day and show/ed t...

THERE'S A FLOTSAM IN THE WATER
THERE'S A FLOTSAM IN THE WATER. Monday, May 9, 2011. My least favorite character that I have read about this year is not really person. It is the tempis that took the beloved Timothy's life. But if I had to choose a person, it would be Murtaugh from Eragon. I love that man. Why, do you ask, is Timothy my favorite character EVER? Monday, May 2, 2011. This week I read most of Into Thin Air. Tuesday, April 26, 2011. Http:/ www.youtube.com/watch? Monday, April 18, 2011. Timothy, in the book. Could be describ...
